While working on the boat I noticed one of my rear storage cushions has a small tear on the side of the cushion. What is the best way to prevent this thing from spreading or getting larger? Is there a gel or UV glue you guys use? I've seen this vinyl tape strips but reviews say they come off after only a little while.

If it were me I'd use super glue and never worry about it again... But there's probably better stuff out there

I'll be interested to see the responses because I have the same tear/cut. I determined that it's due to the sharp edges of the engine cover. There's a bit of play in the hinges & if you're not careful lowering it, as I wasn't, you can slash it. Not sure if yours happened the same way but it looks like it.

I'm not sure how it happened. It could have been when I was working on the engine last weekend and had the panels laying on their side next to some tools and just something slit it. Could also have been the hatch I suppose as well. I never noticed it until yesterday and I'm fairly sure it wasn't there last season. Hopefully someone chimes in with a nice fix that lasts, looks good and is most of all is cheap lol

Shoe-goo
IT is like a thick silicone caulk, clear. Most of my cushions have it on bottom rear corners

Never heard of that stuff @dan144k but I am going to give it a try myself. Thanks.

Never heard of that stuff either but will for sure give it a try. It has great reviews on Academy and seems a lot of people use it for all sorts of repairs on leather, rubber, vinyl or canvas. Thanks @dan144k for the suggestion.

Are you still within a year of purchase? I had a tiny blemish in two of my seat cushions last season, and my dealer replaced it free of charge. Completely covered under Yamaha's warranty. Might be worth asking?

@haknslash - we had a problem like that. Wife let the power washer sit too long on the the top of the swim deck seats - the contrasted fabric on top of the seat (not the actual vinyl seat)

However the super cheap repair may be worth a try. She bought something from Michael's (also found at Hobby Lobby or Walmart) that is a stitch repair clue. Not sure what the difference is but apparently the ladies at Michael's swear by it. See the link below. If you get this option make sure it is the "washable" option. Apparently there is another name brand that is more transient and will wash/wipe away.

lol I wish I had a good dealer. I'm still waiting for my issue with my tower and they was back in November last year.

@dan144k Just wanted to say a big thank you for your suggestion to try Shoe-Goo. It went on easy and even though it is clear it seems to hide the rips and tears. It remains flexible too.

@buckbuck
Glad to help.
I have used it to repair tears in covers also.
My method is
1. shoe goo both sides of cover and
2. then duct tape over the tear and the shoe goo
3. Then put pressure on it to squeeze it flat, maybe some wax paper. Like between books and some weight.
4. Let dry before using.

I used clear Gorilla Tape last time on my cover. That Shoe Goo may be a good addition to that repair... Good idea.

When you did this, did you remove the duct tape after, or is the intent to leave the tape on?

Maybe too late now but next time try Bish's Tear Mender, can get it at Walmart and Tractor Supply. Stuff has been around a long and works great on vinyl. Holds strong and stays flexible. Guys use it to repair welder's gloves.

Intend was to leave duct tape on. The caulk or glue holds the duct tape better than the tapes adhesive, and the tape fibers are flexible and prevent future tears and the area.

I have used Covermate Boat Cover Reinforcement and Repair Tape before too, but the adhesive was not strong enough, so I had to caulk or shoo goo it on. It is thicker and stronger than duct tape.

Surprised no one has said tear-aid yet.

Shoe goo is awesome stuff...... I have a tube held together with it.
