I did the same. If they are going to bend past 90 degrees I will weld a gusset in to firm them up. IMHO you need them “snug” but not ratcheted down to the point of trying to lift the bow. I think the bent tabs will be fine without modification.
Agree with you on our third season and no issues at all.
Not sure if it applies to this scenario, but I was having issues with my straps interfering with the taillights, so I installed 1/2-13 eye bolts in the brackets holes. I can adjust the eyebolts our as far as I want to relieve the interference with the tail lamps.
I think I will change mine to your method…I had inserted blocks on the stock tab with hole to create space where the strap doesn’t rub on the side of the light. Those tabs suck and have gradually bent so now it’s rubbing again. Going to the mount on frame hole drilled method.
Install them directly on the frame. Yes, those tabs bend easily.
