I just purchased a 2023 Yamaha 252SD and need to refit the boat lift, which previously stored a pontoon boat, with new bunks.

I have seen lots of threads on bunk spacing, but almost no threads on the I-beam spacing. My beams are 7’9” apart. This means that 6’7” of the stern (including the engines) will be hanging over the back. Of course, the bunks will run 12 feet from the stern towards the bow, but my concern is if this is too much weight behind the rear beam.

I have attached a sketch showing where the beam placement will be on the boat, along with dimensions. The sketch does NOT show the bunks.

Will the boat be stable on the lift with this beam spacing?

The issue is that it will be significant effort and cost to move the boat lift further aft. So if we can use the current setup with new bunks/brackets, that would be ideal.

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Also, if anyone has any recommendations for bunk brackets, I would appreciate it. The beams are 3” wide by 4” tall.

The local boat lift guy came by and said the lift and cross beams looked good, and that he would come back and install new brackets for the bunks. Hopefully that info is helpful for anyone with this question in the future.
