Someone steppedon/kicked my latch with their heel and it had enough force to snap the plastic holding the metal shaft. Does anyone have experience replacing the latch assembly so I can replace it?

It's common
Whitecap brand, unscrew the nut on the bottom and it pulls right up

You can get a replacement with a lock if you want,

When you pull it out check wood in the opening to make sure it's not rotting,
Older boats the seal didn't close and let water in

Use search "latch replacement" and it will bring up 5-6
I was able to swap it out with another latch on one of my ski lockers until I buy a replacement. My problem was the plastic nut was locked really tight in place and I couldn't budge it. I did not have a large channel lock at the lake. The first couple times I tried, the whole assembly just spun in place which had me scratching my head and hence the post. All I saw in the post about removal was that it was "super easy" making me wonder what the hell I was doing wrong. After a little more reading I decided to try twisting it again and sure enough it popped free.
