Hi, I think this is my first post here, Im buying a DEMO 2016 Scarab 215 from local dealer, it has only 12 hrs and everything looks good, but I have a question, How do i can confirm if this boat has 200 or 250HP engines??, I could not find anything inside the engine compartament, in the back outside it says HO, but Im not sure.

I'd get the Hull ID # and call scarab. They should be able to tell you everything about it.

On the outside of the transom on the right side...should be embedded in the hull.

You could also try punching it in here
http://www.hindecoder.com/index.php?q=TEAM-SCARAB-INC-HIN-Decoder but that might not give you engines as they vary. But scarab should know.

Both the 200and 250 motors will have superchargers. The 250 will have external intercoolers.

Exactly what @Scott E said, just find some images - it is very obvious once you know what to look for. Unfortunately, dealers/sales people can be confused.

That is correct the 200 hp is internal and the 250 hp is external intercooler. This is a 250 HP and the intercooler is in the back.100_1160.JPG

Yes, this is what I have, I think these are 200Hps....

Alan is correct, easiest way is to look for the external intercooler, which is the silver metal device in the center top of his photo, with the hoses going in/out of it. Only the 250HP has that.

I see that you are in Costa Rica. Are you buying it from Cascos Marinos?

If your dealer cannot tell you something so simple I would say stay stay away from the dealer. They seem clueless about their own product.

Yes those two are 200 HP. The intercoolers are in the plenum just left of the oil caps.

There is only one Scarab dealer in Costa Rica. The OP evidently, doesn't trust them (and neither would I). However, if he wants a Scarab, he does not have any other dealer to go to.

True, just very concerning when the dealer can't tell you specs.

Elliot (dealer manager) told me that I have 200Hp, but I just want to be sure how you can find that on the engines

If you have not bought it already, you may want to look into importing one from the US yourself.
In Panama, where Cascos Marinos is also the only Scarab dealer, they were asking at least $15,000 over the cost of buying one in the states+shipping+duties/taxes.

Also, as far as I can tell, there are no BRP dealers in Costa Rica. If Cascos Marinos can't help you with engine issues, you have nowhere else to go.

Yes, got your point, before buying this I went over several boat sales company but this one looks a good deal for me, I bought a demo unit that was brought here on Sept 16, it has a relative good price comparing with similar boats in US and it has only 12 hrs on each engine, as Panama Cascos Marinos is the only dealer here, but we have a BRP dealer which is Terramarina, Although this is a demo unit with 12 hrs Im receiving the standard factory warranty from them, which I hardly receive locally if I imported.

Thanks for your great advice, Ill keep post how this deal ends, only time wil tell.
