I was out on the water the other day and got caught in 4-5 foot waves. I had to gun it back to our location due to storms coming my way. I hit a few high revs while jumping waves and got a check engine light (port side). I just reset it and kept heading home. Put boat on lift and flushed with salt away like always. No problem

Changed out my old battery for a new "Wal Mart special." Charged battery up.

Went out today and while just putting along in a no wake area about 30 mins into my outing the light came on again (port side). I silenced it but it kept coming back. I stopped the engines, checked the oil level. All good. Restarted and it kept coming back on! I researched the forum for answers but thought I would ask again to see if others have had this issue?

I am only running a single battery with stacked connectors. Could that be an issue? It has never been a problem before but now I don't want to keep running the error not knowing what the cause truly is.

Any help or advice is appreciated.

Sorry to hear about your issue @spaz944

When's the last time the spark plugs were changed?
Was the light on constantly, or flashing?

Spark plugs changed a few months ago. I think the light was on steady but once silenced, it would flash on and off

You may need to find someone with a YDS cable to plug it in and look for errors...

If it's flashing on and off try to determine if it's flashing a code. There is a list of codes in the frequently asked questions section.

Picked up some sea grass which turned on the check engine light. Port and then starboard. What is a YDS cable. Where can I get one. I looked it up on amazon. Is there software that
you need to go with cable. 2016 AR240
Thanks

Since you know what caused the code, have you tried turning the battery switches off for about 5 minutes, then turning them back on? Others have said this may help clear the warning light.

You can get the cable and software on eBay.

Make sure you get the correct software for your year model!!

I believe up to 2012 is 1.33 and beyond that year is a different version.

@Jimgodiving , the YDS (Yamaha Diagnostic S... - don't remember the last one) cable and software are on ebay, not that I know of on Amazon. Lots of sellers such as http://tinyurl.com/m4j6vol
***BUT*** before you spend any $ on this AFAIK, Version 1.33 is the latest you can get publicly and boats newer than 2012 need version 2.0 which you can't get - Yamaha is only making it available to dealers. For your 2016, the eBay ones won't help...

Another damn way for Yamaha to make us rely on crooked dealers. SMH
