EBay customers must reset passwords after major hack

Anyone read about this? I just checked and my password still works.....hmmm. I'm wondering if this is related to my CC info being swiped last month? They hit a BestBuy for about 5k.

Seems they think the data is safe after all.... but still advise a password change to be a good idea.

Someone stole my identity 2 weeks ago and opened a Bill Me Later account at PayPal. And I didnt even get a thank you for the brand new $900.00 computer they bought!

Same thing happened to me a couple years ago. Dont know what they bought but they racked up almost $4k at Paypal according to the fraud person I spoke to.

I'm still waiting for more info from them. They had me make out a police report. Curious to see if it goes anywhere. Between that and my truck getting broke into last month ....it has been a real fun kick off to summer!

You should file a report with the FTC as well. And notify one of the three credit bureaus if you haven't already. By notifying one, you've notified them all - I used Experian and they pass it along. You are then entitled to another free credit report from them even if you already got your free one for the year. You can also put a 90 day alert on your credit info. And set up a special password with your banks - they will know what you mean when you call them.

What does being a lifelock member do for you in all of this? I know they cover much of it and take care of all the credit bureau stuff as well.

Yep, just about a month ago. PITA if you ask me. It was Discover that caught it and called me. Second time with them. They are in the top 5 for resolving these things quickly, so is BofA. It took one day for them to close the case and close the old account and send a new card.

I think they monitor your accounts and in the event something happens they do most of the legwork. I don't know if they can or will file a Police report. I do know that they will gladly take your money.
