Can anyone advise if there is a way to proactively check the engine temperature of my 1.8 engines?
My previous stern drives had a temp gauge that provided a comfort level, if nothing else.
I recently ran both engines in the driveway (without hose hookup) for a few minutes to warm up the oil before I did an oil change but was concerned in running them too long...

I don't recommend running the engines without water. It's one thing if you're only cranking it for a second to check something but another if running them for longer periods. It takes several minutes for the oil to get warm enough for an oil change and during that time it should be run on water.
