Found this boat at a dealer in consignment, nice boat and the salesman said it's been serviced regularly at their shop and have all the service records. But the cover is tore up and they let the sun really give a beating in all the upper cushions so all the gray will need replaced. He said the white all looks good. It only has 117 hrs on it and the rest of the boat looks pretty good. For $250 they can do a check and make sure everything is ok and working properly. The price isn't bad depending on what a new cover and seats cost to get done. Anyone have this done or have a ball park figure on a price? Or should I just walk away? I have never had a jet boat so I'm not sure what to lookout for. Thank you for your advice and boat safe out there

Look in my signature below for common. Issues with this boat

I would ask to see the service records since they did the work

Definitely check the compression and ask them for hours and fault codes from YDS

Seats will cost you $2-3k

Where are you at and what type of boating do you intend to do? Is this your first boat

I was thinking closer to 5k for seats.
Compression and yds for sure! I would be there too watch them do it.

I'm in Indianapolis basically and boat around here and want to hit dale hollow and Cumberland when I can. Stupid question here but what is a yds? I'm new to the jet boats but not boating I've had everything from roundabouts to houseboat s and then got out of it and now want another smaller boat. Thanks so much for the heads up

YDS is the Yamaha Diagnostic software that allows you to talk to the engines. It gives you various records and shows any fault codes.

Make sure you look at @Scottintexas document. The boat are low maintenance but it is nice to know where to look if you are going to have problems.

A new cover will set you back about $600 if you get the mooring cover designed for these boats.

Thanks for the info!!! I think I'm going to pass on this one I just have a bad feeling for some reason

I don't blame you. I've never understood how people list stuff as "Good condition" and "Well Maintained" if they leave it to rot in the sun, especially after the cover is shredded.

So, these boats are generally pretty solid mechanically. A boat in poor visual condition is going to sit for a long time until they lower the price enough to make it worthwhile.

If you have time and don't mind hussling to get it to exactly how you want it,
Figure out worst case, offer 5 grand under that, and if they take it, great.

With a new upholstery you can pick new colors, with extra cash you can install seadek or a better sound system. You can end up with a great boat, but it must be worth it to you.

I saw your are ready to pass, but keep in mind with that condition you may have a lot of leverage. Maybe come to with a price that works and Target that. If you get it, fantastic. If not, nothing is lost.

Also, no way you want to replace gray only. Upholstery will want to do all. Budget $2k-5k to do it, depending on how much you want to shop around.

It sounds like you've already made your decision, but if the hours are real (which IS possible: My '09 that I bought new in 2010 doesn't have a lot more than that) and it hasn't been sunk, this could actually be a decent find.

Make the seller eat the cost of the cushions (either replace them or discount it). YOU didn't leave it out in the sun like a dummy. Why should you pay for it?

Now, after saying that, I'll also say this: I judge a boat's overall condition at first glance. If the time has been taken to keep her shiny and new on the outside, then it's more likely that the time has been taken to keep her internals in good shape as well.

If she's a pig on the outside, I question if anyone has bothered with regular maintenance. If you couldn't take the time to wash it and wax it, I find it unlikely that you've bothered to maintain it.

While this isn't always true, a used vessel is like buying a pig in a poke. You've got to have SOME weed-out criteria.
