Has anyone ever replaced a fuel filter for their jet boat. If so, how did you do it?
 
There isn't a serviced filter on these engine. In the fuel tank, the fuel pump assembly has a (fuel sock) but normally it isn't replaced unless you had a lot of debris that ruined it
 
Yup, good advice, To the OP I responded on the other forum as well with the same info. You will get better answers on current Yamaha four stroke boats over here. The other forum is where two strokes go to die. (smile)
 
The filter is built in the pump housing and it a nice size nylon screen.....much higher chance of the pump failing long before the screen clogs. Anyway a new pump complete is around a grand and the internal parts are about 90 bucks for you to rebuild the internals. Bad new if you break the outside case getting it apart you will need a pump complete.........or purchase a used pump on Ebay 120 to 200 bucks to salvage the case.

You could remove pump and disassemble to clean nylon screen but the reward it not worth the risk in my book ........

The motor does a a lot of hesitation under throttle. Just thought that might be cause
 
Are you sure its the engine, not the pump cavitating. Check the impeller clearance first.
When was your last spark plug change,
Old, bad fuel can cause hesitation
 
Cavitating is always a problem but usually that can cause the RPM to rev high and you feel like you are going no were. Hesitation..... is it like a stumble?.....then picks up speed ......this in cars and boats usually a Mass Air Flow sensor or a throttle position sensor. Might be time to read the plugs when the mix is off air to fuel it shows up in the plug as rich or lean.....depending on how the sensor is failing....both sensors are just sending voltage to the computer EMC ....not getting proper voltage and she will hesitate.

Fairly easy read with a volt meter with an ohm setting. My brain is always stuck in the Yamaha 1.8 engine the TR-1 and the higher rev motors are a little more complicated on the intake side. I'm sure if it's a TR-1 or other high revving motor someone will chime in soon with some advice.

OPPS I forgot to add like Neutron says throwing a set of plugs at a Yamaha is always a good thing when having trouble..............Not saying Yamaha is sensitive to plugs and battery voltage.......just had my head spinning on a bad battery taking out both engines and bad plugs at the same time.....talk about a headach!!!!!! and YES my plug read look great and yet these perfect looking plugs were bad and misfiring....not sure how these NKG can look so good and be so bad. Yamaha seems to slap in the back of the head every time I think I know something......... LOL
