I need to repair a pretty good shot to my gel coat/glass, long story, pics will be posted, and I'm always looking to get another tool for my collection! Friend of mine is moving his boat shop & will be using my garage for any repair work he'll have. I'm looking for a gel coat gun to hook up to the compressor & have no idea where to start.

@Glassman, this thread needs your attention!

How much work do you plan to do?
Have you used a spray gun before?
You want pressure feed, gravity feed, siphon feed?
How much $$ you want to spend?

Don't know and want a suggestion?

You don't really need a huge investment in hoses and pots, etc. if you are just doing spot repairs. A little touch-up cup gun will do the job and save you some money.

We use DeVilbiss, Binks and a few others, but they do cost a lot of money. You can get a knock off and save a bunch of money.

Example of a touch-up gun I use with gel coat:

Just make sure you use the right tip/needle combination for the type of material. Medium to heavy - depends on how you prepare the gel coat. There's a chart in the book to aid you.

Thanks Glassman! It's primarily gonna be used for smaller repair jobs, scratches, gouges, etc.

Then I might recommend an airbrush. You might have to drill out a tip for gel coat use, but you'll find it to be much cheaper and much, much easier to handle - especially around tight places. And you can use it for many other things....and they are actually a lot of fun to play with. If you have kids they are great for projects, etc. I did a banner for one of my kids teams years ago. Had them draw it and I went over it with all the colors they picked out.
Something like this - it's so cheap you can make one airbrush specifically for each color of your boat!
