I have a Lowrance Elite-4 which serves me well, but the maps are horribly outdated/non-detailed.

Ideally I would like to upgrade it without having to replace the transducer, although I understand that some of the newer Lowrance units have better bottom mapping. I don't fish, so don't really care too much about the "fishfinder" aspect, but I'd love a better GPS. My very old (20+ year) Garmin had a cool "VMG" "(Velocity Made Good") feature which the Lowrance does not. It is nice to see ETA to destination based on present course/speed.

I tried the Navionics "Boating" app on my phone, but it is a pain to adjust while underway.

What are your favorite GPS units? I like the small form factor of the Elite 4 also.

I love my humminbird 688ci HD DI. I sometimes will use the downward imaging when checking out a new swimming location.
