Wow, that sounds rough...if the shaft where supposed to come off with the hub
#1 Yes, #2 Not easily, as the bolt pattern does not match. I could "fabricate/hack on the current one and "make it fit" but I'm hesitant. Are you changing steering wheels and wanting to use a new hub? Could you mount the new steering wheel to the existing hub?
That hub that is still on the shaft looks like it has a keyway in it, the square notch cut out of it, check for a set screw where that notch is. If no set screw it should be abled to be pulled off, may have to use a puller set.#1 Yes, #2 Not easily, as the bolt pattern does not match. Mine looks exactly like that picture, and I am not sure if I can pull on that geared piece to take it off. The more I look at it, it seems to be just pressed in place and a puller can be applied to remove it. Do you guys recall if anyone has taken that off?
Thanks!
Thanks for taking a look. I'm not sure what is the other piece of plastic that separated that you are referringto. My situation looks like this
https://jetboaters.net/attachments/img_2044-jpg.14855/
The plastic left does not rotate with the steering and covers the tilt mechanism of the column. There is enough clearance behind that metal piece that I can get some leverage behind it, but I'm not sure what piece from the hub or boss would have been left behind.
The pictures I provided last show the new hub and the old one.
Thanks again.
Thanks. My question is, do the splines come off with a puller, if Ineed them off to use my wheel? Consensus seems to be yes.
Will hopefully get a chance to attack again over the weekend.
A new hub/boss is not expensive most motor factors stock them and can easily match your wheel to a new boss /hub, better and cheaper than your alternative i believe and no tears if things go wrong, Hope this helps.Thanks. Because the wheel was so cheap, it's not cost effective to ship it back. The included new hub does not require the splines and has the keyed metal piece baked in.
I will play it by ear and report back. Thanks again for everyone's assistance.
