the coiled cable that connects the PA/microphone is deteriorating, the rubber of the coil is falling off, in my quest this year to clean up the boat I thought I might replace it,

I can't find it or even a replacement cord/microphone,

I thought I might just buy a 8 strand coiled cord and splice it to the connectors but haven't found anything,

any suggestions,

I have had the same problem, a couple years back I threw the handheld mic away thinking that it was easy to replace, and I could still use the sound system without it. Boy was I wrong, the Infinity 6100m system is a brick without it. Here's the up side though, I'm an electrical engineer and I found some schematics of the system. After looking at them, I can tell you that the handheld mic has a decent amount of electronics in it that take the input from the mic and combine it with the music signal. The amount of work it would be to reproduce this circuit wouldn't be worth it, even for myself, but what I can do, with little work, is make a circuit that turns the unit on and passes the music signal through. This makes it so you can control it's volume with the main radio head unit. The whole installation would be just plugging a little device into the GX16-8 plug where the mic used to be.
Anyway, if there is any interest in this then let me know and I'll order some circuit boards.

Hi Bob,
I just joined the group after reading a part of your post on the Infinity 6100M system. I have this on my Sea Ray 260 Sundeck. 1 only of the 6.5" speakers & 1 only tweeter are still working. My plan is to remove & rebuild over the coming Winter. I understand some basics of electronics but only to a point. I'd like to test & verify the crossovers are still OK. Any idea what readings I'm looking for ?
Should they be gone can I replace with a pair of 6.5 co-axials in the same enclosure ? Existing tweeter openings can be blocked off easily. I know I need to maintain 4 ohms minimum for the amp & 2 x 4 ohm in parallel would yield 2 ohms. Perhaps I can put a 2 ohm resistor in series with the pair ?

Any thoughts appreciated.
Super short boating season here in Atlantic Canada. Mid-June to about mid-September at the latest.

Thank You,
Steve Craig
