Just looking for some opinions if I am being too picky or do I have a legit case here. So brought my boat in to get the stereo installed. Work to be done was install Rev 8's on tower, install extra pair of Wetsounds XS-650 mid cabin, replace other set of in cabin to wetsounds as well. Keep bow and swim platform as is but powered by the amp. Install Amps and re-wire all speakers. Install sub and reinforce backing.

Now I go to pick up the boat (after them having it for an extra week cause I had to go back to work) and they aren't done. Waited for 4 and a half hours to be finished. Pissed off at that point that I basically just check to see that sounds coming from everything and take it home.

Now this morning I start to dig a little deeper into it (yes I know I should of at the installers) so the bow and swim platform speakers were not rewired, just spliced into the factory wiring. The amps are a mess compared to what we discussed. The HT6 which was supposed to power all the 6.5's giving the cabin ones the required 110 RMS and the bow and swim platform in parallel giving them 75w a piece. Instead he has the towers running off ch 1-4 giving them 300 watts (towers are rated at 200) And then the swim platform and bow how they should be off the amp (but no new wiring) Then comes the syn 6. So the 4 mid cabin are running off ch 1-4 giving them only 60 watts, and then he bridged the sub on ch 5-6 giving it 600 watts (sub is only rated at 300) So underpowering the cabins and sending way too much to the sub.

The install was supposed to look like this

4x 6.5 cabins on ch 1-4 on HT6-110 RMS to each
Bow and Swim platform on ch 5-6 on HT6 in parallel 75RMS to each

Rev 8's Ch1-4 Bridged and in mono on Syn6- 205RMS to each
SW-10FA ch 5 mono- 300 watts RMS

Maybe someone can chime in and say his way is better? But I can't see how... Just want a few opinions before I tee off on my installer. Looking in your direction @David Analog @txav8r

Really wish I could find a reputable dealer here in my area like @Earmark Marine but sadly no so luck. He is a wetsounds dealer as well, but overall sure not happy at this point.

If I were you, I'd turn right around and bring the boat back to that shop. Hand him the instructions above and say, "This is how I asked you to do the install, call me when you get it right."

Hope you didn't pay cash and/or that the guy stands behind his work.

What was the quality of the physical install work.. Hopefully it is good?

If so, perhaps the miswire was an oversight. Suggest you approach the manager and share your suspicions or your analysis of the issue and see what kind of response you get. Mgr may have a systemic problem with his techs, and clearly a gap in quality checks. I'm guessing that he'll address it and make it right.

The manager is the tech... One man show... I'll be getting into contact with him today, but it just sucks cause I have an appointment to bring the truck in today to the dealer, so can't haul the boat, and tomorrow the boat is going to a different dealer for the fish finder install. And was supposed to be leaving after that to bring the boat to it's home for the summer. But guess that will wait, if the cables were long enough I'd just rewire myself, but pretty shitty when you pay over 1500 for just the install and it's not how you wanted it.

Funny thing is the mastercraft dealer here in town brings him all his boats to do upgrades and to tune things. Here I thought I was safe if they trust him with that... Guess not

I'm assuming that you gave him the initial specs. If so, it's clear he didn't do what you agreed to pay for. I'd put a stop payment on the check (or call your credit card lender) and let him know you'll release the money when the job is done right.

Sucks it impacts so many other things - I'd try to be "nice, but firm and direct".

Ugh. I'd give him benefit of the doubt, but be firm and polite to get what you want. Maybe he'll throw in some additional goodies or $$ to make it worth your while.

Sometimes what we think the equipment will do isn't hiw it works. But it may be. Amps are not rocket science, but they can only be laid out according to their design. Not knowing your setup, I don't know squat. But what you requested sounds reasonable and if that is what you were promised, take it back. If there were distribution of power issues that it can't support, they should have explained it and given you choices. My guess is that he will make it right, but don't go too hard on it taking more time. Complications arise as I had too, but in the end, it is perfect. Hopefully that will be the result here after your conversation. If it isn't, feel free to let us know. Good references speak loud and clear, I don't like to see bad references, but I always appreciate knowing who not to take my business to. My bet is he will make it right. Sorry it didn't happen the first time.

Don't get me wrong the system as it stands sounds good, and is loud as hell... But I am losing some potential in my mind. And it wasn't done as we discussed and I was never told any different, even when I asked before I picked it up if there were any complications with the install

If it was written down in some form, review with him. Just don't go off the handle on him. Review what you asked for and what you found and GI from there.

Just me, but I think he did the right thing for the tower speakers and sub. You do not want 200w max going to 200w rms speakers. You don't want to turn up volume or set gain to the point where the amp clips. You will have peaks in the music REV8 peaks at 400w so to get clean power to the most important part of your setup to me, the Tower and Sub, that would be in line with that philosophy. If it's properly tuned and sounds killer, installed professionally, warranted, etc. then that's a win. Whether you have the right equipment, right setup, budget for what you want, etc....dunno. I don't see any reason to run completely new wire, but if you paid for stuff and didn't get, that's an issue. Have them explain why they did it the way they did and give you options with pros and cons.

I used the factory wire and just spliced into to lengthen it to the amp. Mine sounds just fine. I dont think I would rewire either but like @scokill said if you paid for it I would get it.

@Earmark Marine installed my system and extended the factory speaker wite, and no reason not to, it is in position and perfectly good. I also extended factory harness speaker wire in my previous yamaha install too.

Good to know, would of thought the factory stuff would of been too thin, but guess I'm wrong there, won't pursue that aspect of it.

What ended up happening with this one? Was it resolved?

Guess I should of had a follow up, ended up bringing the boat back in, he rewired the amps after a discussion with me and the wetsounds supplier came to a hybrid of what me and him were debating. He didn't end up reinforcing the sub. Still not overly happy with that, but we'll see how it holds up. If it doesn't I'll be dragging it back to him. Know a few guys have done it without and have been fine. Setup still kicks ass, but don't think I'd be going back their for another install.
