hauled my boat out today for a mid season cleaning and install of the cobra steering system. after the install i was running a shift and steering check to be sure everything was working ok and i noticed something odd. now im not sure if this is just on the sd models, just the 275 or if it applies to others with electronically controlled shift but at idle in fwd the gates arent open all the way. i thought i messed up an adjustment somehow but apparently not. at idle in fwd the gates are closed 1/3 of the way. i put the boat in fwd and thought there is no way that is right having the jet stream that closed off but then i brought it out of idle and bumped the rpm up just a hair then they open all the way. i am guessing yamaha maybe did this to slow down idle speed but im really not sure. you would think in fwd that the gate would be wide open. so i guess we have 4 gate positions now, reverse, neutral, idle and forward. anyone else notice this behavior?
