So I have two options for storing my boat during the upcoming hurricane. We are not expecting a direct hit, so it should weaken some by the time it gets to us.

A) My current storage facility is covered, but it is a stick built shed structure (see picture below). It faces north, so if the hurricane does what it is supposed to do the wind would be blowing in to the opening of the structure. Forecasts are showing 50-70mph+ winds in that area. Concern here is that the shed collapses on the boat. But I guess its entirely possible that it just rips the top off and leaves the boat sitting on a concrete pad.

B) A friend of mine has 5 acres of land that I can put the boat on. There are some trees on and around the property, so flying debris could be an issue. Would sit in the open uncovered.

Any advice on which option would be better would be awesome. This is the first time I've had to worry about a boat in a storm.

Sadly I see your catch 22. Personally I would leave it where it is and make sure its covered on insurance.

If you can get it away from trees, i would put it in a field and put 5' ground anchors in and straps. To me it's better than putting it into a cheaply built storage unit that will for sure be torn apart. Just make sure your insurance covers you in what ever location the boat is at.

It is covered with insurance...5k named storm deductible, so that kinda sucks.
I asked the storage facility if they were worried about the structure, and the guy said he wouldn't leave it in there with winds above 70. So I took it to a friends house, and put in the only 3 ground anchors I could find at the hardware store, and strapped it to them. Now we wait and see. :nailbiting:

Thanks for the advice!

Turns out I dodged a bullet. No damage at all at friends house, stayed in place no problem, no debris. Here's the structure after Irma had her way with it.
