So my radio stopped working so I decided to upgrade. I went with the Sony MEX M100bt due to its high power 4x40 watts rms and 4x100 watts peak. I figured I may not need an amp for the speakers if I went this way but we will see. Problem I just noticed even though its a marine radio it is not waterproof only water resistant. Do I need to install a cover on it? Boat stays covered when not in use but I still get caught in the rain on occasion. Water resistant just means the circuit board has been coated if I remember correctly?

Based on the way the unit is mounted in your boat, unit face slightly upward, if the unit didn't have a CD slot I personally would be okay without a cover, but that Sony unit looks like it has a CD slot which would concern me when caught in a rain storm. The circuits might be ok with a little water intrusion but that CD slot might let in more water than the water resistance protection provides.

Thanks @Andy S that was my concern as well. I looked high and low for a media player that had similar or better stats and I couldn't find one as I didn't need the CD part. Well I guess I will start shopping for a cover hoping to find something that is removable instead of the flip top if anyone knows of anything out there.
