Missing gel coat.

Replaced my rear handle today and found this chunk of gel coat missing, fiberglass showing thru. Can I just put some new epoxy on it? Or is there something more appropriate for this kind of problem?

Looks like a pretty decent void, I wouldn't be surprised if that hole got bigger. If it were me, I'd try to force epoxy as far under the existing lip as possible to fill it in, then cover with gelcoat with a spectrum kit.
