This weekend is a good time to watch the moon rise out of the lake over the horizon. Kinda like a sunrise but with a moon. I have never seen it but a sailing friend of mine use to always love to watch it. Saturday and Sunday, if weather is clear, will provide early evening showing with almost a full moon.

Should look cool from shore also.

Sat in waukegan
End of twilight 7:25
Moonrise 7:44

Cool! I'm planning on doing that same thing tonight (for my first time also) on Lake Ontario, off Rochester, NY

Planning on leaving work and getting the boat ready very shortly :)

It was well worth the effort. Was pretty spectacular. Also was the orange harvest moon 99% full. Lake Michigan was flat and smooth. Great for floating and hanging out.

Gonna head to the beach and check this out tonight. @dan144k do you normally boat on Lake Michigan? I live in highland park, but drive 45 minutes to boat on the chain.

@BobJohnson
Tonight it happens at 8:21, plann to hang out and watch it for a while, It really glows bright after it gains some elevation.

We will go out on lake michigan, but kinda only to do events, Air and Water Show, Fireworks on the 4th, Shoreline boat ride for the fall colors. I am verty cautious about the weather and crew I take out on Lake Michigan. Also Lake is very cold most of the year, and about a hour drive for us.

We go on the chain once in a while but usually go on the Fox River near Elgin, but it is very shallow 2-6ft deep, and has a gravel launch which the jet skier have destroyed with there minivans. But it is 30 minutes from the house and the water warms up faster than the big lake.

Do you trailer to the chain, keep it in a slip, or dry dock? just curious

We wet slip at Sequoit Harbor on 173. The convince of just driving up, taking cover off and driving away trumps the problems with the slimy/dirty hull. agree on the water temp. We live close to a Lake Michigan beach and the water gets warm enough to swim really in August. At chain, we are in water in May. And I was in and still comfortable yesterday. But, next year, I want to find time to hit Lake Michigan.

Sorry for derailing your post. (And darn it, stuff came up at home and I never got to the beach tonight)

Taken Friday night, out on Lake Ontario. Not a very good photo with my phone. My wife has some really nice shots with her nicer camera and lens
