Guys, I could use some help shopping for the correct cover. My 2016 242 Limited S E series cover is torn, and while I can repair it, I am going to buy a new one as well.

MY question is, do all the 242's use the same cover, or are the towers different? I see a few covers for Limited S, but they dont say E Series. Does anyone know if the cover for 2014 Limited S would fit mine ?

Thanks !

S and SE and X is probably the same. But, 2014 and 2016 would not be.

Thank you ! I saw that one, @\\\Wolverine/// , thanks for the info. I am going to order that one. I will check the label as well, but I feel better already.

Interested in selling the old cover? If so can you describe the tear?

It's a whopper, right across the bow area where the anti pooling pole sits. I did a quick patch so I can cover the boat this week, and may look to get it professionally repaired . Thanks for asking, will let you know if I decide to ditch it.

Typically if it's the same material as the covers for the 230s after about three to four years of use they are not easily repaired and you typically have to replace them.! And lord dont wash it and try to water proof it !!! Wont last the trip home!

Well, crap, that's pretty much what happened. I thought I saw a bunch of posts here about cleaning them, and using 303 fabric guard. Did that, cover is toast. I have a new one coming, and now I am going to be afraid to wash it ! And you are right, mine is about 4 years old.

By washing I mean we took ours to an industrial washer and had them add waterproofing compound to it... if was already prob three years old. It didnt work out well!

Yikes, well I did mine according to the directions on the cover. You may be right that patching it isnt worth it, we'll see.

New Question: I have a 2014 SX240 and had ordered the cover with the snaps from the dealer who installed the snaps. The cover is old and looking like I can maybe finish the season. Does a new cover have the snaps in the same exact place? I assume the dealer gets the cover and drills the holes according to the cover which are all the same? Please advise, thanks

Dont buy the factory yamaha canvas or covers. They fit ok but the material they use is terrible. Its not waterproof and will fall apart in a few years. Find a good marine canvas guy and have him make you new covers to fit the original snaps. Typically all sunbrella material. Will last for years, high quality softer material, totally waterproof and breathable. Shop around for someone that does quality work. There is a big difference. Last fall i had all new canvas covers, bimini and boot for my 232 limited. I paid alot more for for the quality guy but well worth it.

Prob a good idea. I like the easy option of just buying online and installing days later. Getting someone to do anything around here is pain and $$$$. But you are right, the cover is not water proof and terrible material.

@\\\Wolverine///.....that IS a great price. That cover is exactly the same as I got with my 2020 Yamaha SX195 (except for a 19.5 foot boat). BTW I ordered the Yamaha OEM bow and cockpit covers and had the snaps installed locally. They were great quality - easily as good as the Sunbrella or Top Gun covers I have had made in the past. Look just as durable too (knock on wood).
