Hey Everyone!

So I received my new boat registration in the mail. I don't know exactly what happened but I have a feeling something isn't right and someone goofed at the registration office. My registration for my 2014 HO Impulse Scarab 215 that I just received in the mail is listed as "SCARAB INTL YACHTS I" on the registration card.

So are the good folks in PA totally incompetent or did the girl at the title agency put the wrong classification down for the boat?? Just wondering what you guys think and what is my next course of action since I'm fairly certain the fish and boat police will not believe that I'm piloting a yacht lol! Thanks in advance guys! Any thoughts or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

The titles have changed since Rec boat holdings sold to Bennateau. There are rumors going around that Scarab has teamed with Mercury to bring back the big go fast boats like back in the day, and they are looking to have some cubbies too. You should be good to go.

ScarabMike,

Just out of curiosity, how is your boat listed on the registration card? Thanks.

Since scarabs just came out in this size, I bet your states database doesn't have the proper name yet. No big deal but might be worth a phone call to ease your mind and have them correct it.
I ran into similar issues with getting a Bugatti registered a few years back.

Yeah, I will probably give them a call tomorrow, and see what they say.

Did you get a certificate of origin with your boat? That's what the state needs to see.

Yes I did have a certificate of origin. Gave it to the title place when I went to register the boat. Received the boat registration in the mail and the trailer title and registration in the mail so far. Assuming the boat title will be coming any day now. Wouldn't I need to fix that as well if the boat title classification is listed as "SCARAB INTL YACHTS I"?

You are correct, both will need to be corrected and reissued.

Do you recall the name of manufacturer listed on the cert of origin?

Does the mfg name really matter? cA boat registrations also contain a hull ID number as well as the size of the boat. If those things matchup I think you would be good to go but I would try to have the name corrected before next years registration is issued.

Incidentally I've been boating for over a decades (on pwcs for over two), maybe I've just been lucky, but the only times I've had to show my boat's registration to anyone are when I've rented overnight space at a guest dock, when going through a voluntary aux. coast guard inspection and to potential buyers.

Yeah I don't recall the mfg name on the cert of origin. I guess my next question is if they correct this and reissue the title and the registration then my registration numbers they just gave me will change right? So I should probably wait before I purchase the registration letters and numbers correct?

I just noticed something on my registration...my boat grew 3 inches!

I don't think the registration numbers will change. Here in Flo-Rida the registration numbers stay with the boat even after a sale.

Well they didn't seem too concerned about it at the state agency. Tried to tell them that my boat wasn't a yacht lol but they just said well this is the classification it comes up as under "Scarab"?? And as long as the hull ID number matches as well as the boat size then all is good. They sounded pretty clueless so I guess I will just let it go for now. It does sound like PA does not have these new jet boats in their database yet.
