1494881285659814165671.jpg So I have this hole in my dash from an old Faria depth gauge, and I have this sweet compass I got from a friend. Compass is about 2 5/8" and hole is 2 1/4". What's my least destructive way of enlarging this hole evenly?

Can you remount the old compass after removing the glass? Then buy a 2 5/8" hole saw bit and drill the starter hole through the center of the old compass? Tape the heck out of your surrounding helm to protect against slippage.

some hole saw kits have enough threads you could get the 2 1/4 inside the 2 5/8 to use as the pilot bit. Another way I've done it would be to cut the 2 5/8 hole is scrap plywood, then use it as your guide. Have to go slow and tape / hold on the board really good.
