Hello everyone, we are considering getting back into boating after a 15 year hiatus. We really like the 2020 212X, and have a refundable deposit on one now. They want MSRP + fees. It sounds like the biggest fee is dealer prep fees (don’t get me started on that). I understand that You have to pay to play, but how do these boats hold their value? I am just being realistic knowing we’d likely keep it less than 5 years before upgrading or trading. We love being out on the water and now that our boys are 12 & 14, I really think they’d enjoy it as well.

What are your thoughts on this model and any of my initial comments? Appreciate any feedback, thanks!

My suggestion... if you know you aren't going to keep it long term, find a good used 2-3 year old boat. Yamahas hold their value AFTER the initial depreciation!

Thanks, I understand that. But I’d like it to be covered by warranty. Can you get the YES warranty on used boats? I’ve been looking for quite a while, and the used marked here in Washington is scarce.

Mine came with a YES when I bought it used. Never used it. I echo the comment above. Buy a used one. These boats are bulletproof if properly cared for. There are a few for sale on this forum that I would not hesitate to buy, sight unseen. I bought both my used Yammies of the old forum, never water tested and had 'em shipped. Never looked back. A new 212 will not hold it's value at all. A used one will. The 2007-2009 models are really holding strong. I'd shop around, and buy the first one which works for you, be it a 212, 230 or 240. Point is I bought my 2008 for 23900 back in 2013. Never had one issue. I could get 20 k for it today, easy. Definitely go used. Let someone else take the massive depreciation hit.

What they all said. Then consider an AR240. By the time you add the friends, etc., the extra room will be welcomed.

Thanks for the comments. Gives us things to contemplate for sure.

I am another saying go find a used one. Boat warranties have little value in my eyes. A 2-4 year old Yamaha won't give you any problem and you need to get those kids out on the water this weekend.

Thanks. I cannot find anything used local and won’t buy site unseen.

Sounds like its time for a "Road Trip" after you find one you want to look at. One of the best things you can find is one of the used boats on the forum taken care of by a well known and active member. Maybe they're looking to upgrade. Or ask a member to take a look at it for you prior to a trip . . . some are open to helping out that way. With 2 kids myself . . .I find the size of the AR240 works well - as they always add friends on the trips. Personally, I bought one that needed a little TLC . . .but knew that and I like to tinker and use the experience to try and teach my kids along the way as well.

I like the X as well . . . but there are options now (e.g. JetBoatPilot, thrust vector wake and bags) that enable wake surfing with some of the other models as well.

Thanks Penguin.
