New to Yamaha, picking up my 252 in the coming days. Unfortunately, the dealer is unable to do an overview with me when I pick it up. The dealer doesn't have someone available at the only time I was free to pick up the boat been working literally every day and only able to take a half-day off to get the boat. As a new Yamaha boat owner, what are the must-knows? I am not a stranger to jet boats currently have a Seadoo boat. What do I need to know to keep my boat and self-safe? I have been reading through the manual. Any good videos? Anyone in the MI LSC area want to meet up? Appreciate the guidance this forum provides.

Where are you picking up the boat from, which dealer? I am in the area, and could help you go over the boat. Depends on the date and time and my work schedule.

I would find the time to go with @HangOutdoors so he can show you the basics of the Yamahas. He’s documented quite a few additions to his boat, picks up on things quickly and sounds like he is more than willing to help out. Plus I’m sure once he gets a taste of a 252 he’ll be getting the itch to upgrade to a larger boat?

Remove the shipping cover and check everything out at the dealer. Here are a few things that come to mind based on my recent 252S purchase:
Make sure all the screws are in place and tight.
If you bought a fire extinguisher, make sure it is there. Mine was not and the dealer had to mail it to me.
Check all of the hoses in the engine compartment to make sure everything is tight.
Check for proper alignment of the nozzles and that the reverse buckets are aligned with each other and consistent with the throttle position at the helm.
Make sure the batteries are installed and charged.
Check for fuel in the tank. The dealer should have run the engines as part of the prep so there should be fuel in the tank.
Make sure all the cushions and the table are included.
Kill switch lanyard
Keys
Drain plug

Since you've been around boats, you'll probably find boats are boats...the jet drive handles a bit differently but you're already familiar with Seadoo. For me the only totally new thing was the tower and bimini deployment, but the manual covers those and I had read it cover to cover, so I had a good idea how it worked so it wasn't hard to figure out. Aside from new stuff like that, engines, oil level, hoses, drain plugs, lights on the trailer, straps, all the same stuff really. First day out, the only surprise was the handling off the trailer with the ropes - this boat weighs more than our I/O and the taller windshield, tower and bimini caught the wind more so it was a little harder for my wife to handle at first. After a few launches, my wife handled it fine and all I do is tie up the front for her and fire up the engines to warm while I park the trailer.

Oh that's a good point - start engine, turn on water, turn off water, kill engine. It's possible to back-fill the exhaust with water if you don't turn it off before killing the engine.

Don’t skip a walk through.... don’t do it. I get work schedules... but you just dropped $80k on a 252. Find a time that works even if you have to wait a week or two. Or find a proxy- someone who can go in your place and do a proper walk through.
