glad to have you on board, I didn't know they made exciters or any 2 strokes in 2006,

post up a picture of your boat so we can see it,

Had you upgraded your oil lines to run premix?

When I had my Xr1800 I bought the block off plates and removed all of my oil lines so I could run premix. Remember to cap off the oil injection ports on top of the carbs so no debris gets in there if you decide to go that route.

The early exciters didn’t have a variable rate oil pump and many of those were replaced at the dealership for too much smoke. If your pump doesn’t have a throttle cable going to it then you have the nonadjustable rate pump. They are very smoky at startup and during long idle. They can be upgraded, but it’s not required.

It was my understanding all the exciters were variable pump. Upgrade the lines, but too much oil? I had a lot when idling but open it up every few seconds and it was fine. At burns ditch we have something like 1/2 a mile of idle to get out and i killed all the mosquitoes for wveryone behind me! Lol
It was one of the reasons i upgraded to the 212 with 4 strokes

You’re always going to have a lot of smoke on startup.

But there shouldn’t be oil leaking in the engine compartment. Check all your lines and connections.

The first year or two had fixed rate. It's worth checking out because that would make a pretty big difference. Enough that dealerships replaced some with variable.

There are check valves that are intended to prevent oil leaking down into the cylinders over time. If those have been removed or aren't functioning it would only be a problem after long periods of not running.
