Hey guys. I own a 2008 Yamaha F60/40 outboard jet and run it on a G3 1756 GLX. I bought the boat used several years ago. First couple years it ran great, no issues, did regular maintenance and could top out close to 30mph.

Over the past year Ive run into an issue that I and multiple shops have not been able to diagnose.

Sometimes it runs great, more often however I run into an issue of the motor almost sputtering out when trying to either get it on plane or this past outing I was 15 minutes into the run on plane and it completely sputtered out then would not match RPMs and get going. Had to sputter back to ramp.

My initial thought was cavitation, put new impeller and housing in. Didn’t solve issue. Then I thought fuel issue (water in fuel). Tested fuel and came back perfectly clean.

I can run it full throttle on the trailer and it shoots water like it should matching RPMs, it seems to be when on the water this issue arises. Incredibly frustrating, especially the sporadic nature of it working then not working. (Last outing ran all the way up river, didn’t go out until on way back).

Does anyone have any thoughts what this could be? Appreciate any input!

No load on it when on the hose so you cant diagnos it that way.
Its definitely a fuel or spark problem. If its carbureted than the carb should be cleaned properly and new accelerator pump in the carb. Inpect the plugs when it acts up are the rich or lean?
