We had an absolute blast on beautiful Lake Martin and hate the weekend is over already!! Weather held out but the water had already turned a little chilly due to a cold front and lots of rain from Irma last week. We got to meet some new faces and it's always great to hang out with the ole familiar faces like @blacksapphirez @Bill D @DBamaC and a few others who I'm not sure of your S/N on here. I have some video I'll be posting as well and I hope the others post their pics/vids here too. Here are some pics I managed to snap.
This was the house that 3 couples, kids and myself rented for the weekend. The driveway was freaking STEEP and although it did have a bonus of having a private ramp, the ramp was also pretty steep making launching quite the adventure. Not only was the ramp steep but it was partially paved in concrete. At the top was some ruts and lots or rock and gravel which of course was scattered all over the ramp acting like lovely marbles for our tires. It was...uh....eventful to say the least . I'll let the others chime in if they want to but carnage was had by some, pride was swallowed too and I was not the exception to this either. Some may even say I almost dunked my truck in the lake but that's all hog wash and hearsay! I don't know what they are talking about if @Bill D brings it up ....
This really doesn't do the angle of the ramp justice nor the steep and narrow grade of the driveway...
This is the covered dock of the property. Really wished the owner's would sink that storm beaten old pontoon to give us another slip but we made it work out just fine. We all got to have fun showing off docking skills with lots of crab walking and parallel docking the 19's. No fins required on these boats IMO...
The property was named "The View" on VRBO and man it didn't not disappoint in that regard!! This is what you see from the wrap-around upper deck and balcony....
While waiting for @blacksapphirez to arrive to the lake house from getting off work, I took @DBamaC and @Bill D out for a late afternoon cruise. I'm not sure why they are staring into each others eyes like that though ...
Jin on one of the SUP's
Later on we installed my DIY delayed convergence surf wedge to test it out for the first time. I didn't fill any water ballast as we were planning to do that the next day so we just loaded the boat with 3 adults including myself to see if the wake changed at all with the wedge installed. It was definitely doing somemthing so maybe there is hope to add some shape with the single engine boats. I'll test this out more in the coming weeks but we didn't get any surf time in the weekend as we had hoped. Here's the result we got we zero water ballast. Obviously it needs ballast but I'm liking what I'm seeing so far...
Everyone finally arrived safe and sound on the first day and we all helped launch each others boats. The next day we didn't realize just how amazing the sunrises are at this location but they were amazing! I made it a point to wake up and catch it each morning....
On the first night we also did a bit of night cruising and I gotta say this was pretty damn relaxing seeing the milky way and stars while we plotted along at a safe leisurely pace. Some boats had cool LED lighting that added to the chill night vibe...
The next day before more people were to come and meet up with us, we wanted to recon a few sites for others to stay at if we end up doing a large gathering and we would like to host a kickoff to summer event next season. This was one of the sites @DBamaC took us to but I can't remember the name. It would be a good site for those wanting a more basic cabin compared to a big lake house and it's in a good location with nice slips....
After doing some recon we were all starting to get hungry but we had to meet some more new people showing up at our base camp. After helping them launch their boats we all head out for lunch at a popular pizza and beer marina called Chuck's Pizza. During summer they have live bands playing at the bar overlooking the water. The pizza is really good, the service is great and the beer is ice cold....
After eating we decided to go hang out in the coves and relax. Jin found us a nice cove to hold all of our boats...
Leaving the cove we spot a Yamaha chilling by itself just off the channel. Turns out it was another member who lives on the lake and was out looking to see if he could run into us somewhere. So we picked him up to tag along back to base camp and we maxed out that dock with 7 Yamaha's plus a busted old ass pontoon!!...
Seeing as this was now Saturday night and here in the South, college football IS religion so the plan was to grill out some meat and watch some sports. @Bill D rigged up his projector and makeshift screen we fixed to the lower deck and we moved the fire pit down by the seawall for a great view while we had the fire going. Couldn't have asked for a better way to cap off the day!!
Sunday came around and it's sad it all has to end. Everyone packing up their vehicles and boats but not before Jin and I get a few last pics of the beautiful early morning and glass conditions....
Never ever get behind Jin if he's about to take off. I speak from previous experience and you have been warned ....
So relaxing....
Jin wasn't happy about the trip coming to an end. I can't blame him as it was a great time!!...
It was a bitter sweet ride to the docks and ramp this morning knowing summer was coming to an end but I snapped a few pics along the way....
PS, We didn't leave without tagging the wooden seawall like others had done before us. Until next time...
