Was looking at this from BoatUS which came in an email this morning. Kind of interesting. I like concept. Have seen some people on the water that would definitely benefit from a course or two.

On The Water Training: BoatUS Foundation

Of course in our jet boats, docking and slow handling and other things would be a bit different. What would be cool, I think, once or twice a year, that some jet boaters got together and would invite those looking to purchase a jet boat or new owners to gather to help and show some of the tips and techniques on the water of operating and docking them correctly and take them out on the water. Include cleaning pumps in an emergency, proper hose clamping, and some other emergency situations. Perhaps even charge a nominal fee that would cover gas and food, and the extra could go to a non profit or something for kids to learn boating whom don't have the means to do so.

Perhaps I am just rambling, full of coffee, was going to work on the boat, but it decided to rain all morning.

I want my son to take this course. He has been boating with me for 12 years and has hardly bothered to learn anything but the bare basics. Most of the kids his age at the marina can drive 50 footers better then their Dad's.
So, now that he's 17 all of a sudden he wants to learn. Given that 17 year old boys don't listen to a damn thing Fathers tell them I think this would be a good course for him (that way I won't have to yell at him).
I'm just lamenting that's a lot of wasted designated driver opportunities.
