All - not new to boats but new to the jet boats and lake boating. I stopped by looking at Sea Rays/Hurricane boats not even planning on looking at the Yamahas but liked them once I saw them. I have a few questions:

1.) is there a big ride difference btw the 210 and 240?
2.) How will these ride vs a 22 ft Hurricane Deck boat - I will take this to the gulf coast in Florida and don't want to get the crap beat out of me (previously had a 22ft center console)
2.) if I decide to go used what is the best year & model if I want to stay under 40K. Not a speed demon so not sure low 40's vs 50 MPH makes much of a difference. If I went used I would probably go the 24 route so it has the porta potty.
3.) Any key maintenance areas I need to think about
4.) Is the depreciation big enough on these to warrant going used

Really appreciate the help

I have had a 20 ski boat, 25 ft pontoonboat now a 24 ft 2016 SX240. The yamaha is by far the best of the 3. It gos as fast as the ski boat and can get on the sand bar like the pontoon. I all depends on what you plan on doing with your boat amd where you taking it. We live near Tampa FL so we are in salt water every weekend. As long as you flush it out and keep up with the maintenance they will last a long time. There are people on here with boats from the mid 2000's that are still running like a champ. When it comes to picking between a 22 or 24-foot it's all up to what you can find and what you can afford. The 24-foot are going to ride a little smoother and rough water but just remember on both those boats you have two Motors so that's twice the maintenance. 2 sets of sparks plugs, twice the oil and other thing. Happy hunting.

@robert843 has a Hurricane and a 24' Yamaha, so maybe he can chime in. You'll be able to find any model Yamaha used for under 40k. I would say a 2011-2014 242 would be your best bet. Unless you wanted a 21'. The maintenance is a piece of cake and if you do as @Drift Away said above and keep ahead of it, it will just be the routine stuff.

1. The 240 and 212 have 50% more powerful engines than a 210.

2. Not sure which Hurricane 22 but the Yamaha should have way more freeboard and a better ride.

2.(b) my opinion would be to try to find a 2015 240 around $40K if not I would look for a very nice 2007 to 2009 230 series in the $25K price range.

3. Annual maintenance is just 6 quarts of oil, 8 spark plugs and an hour of your time.

4. Yes. Yamaha depreciation is lower than other manufacturers but it is a boat.

@newbote I do have both a hurricane and a Yamaha. I have ridden on the newer hurricanes and they are nice. For your situation I would only look at the Sundeck series and the 22ft or the 24ft sundeck will give you a better ride then the Yamaha counterpart will but in all fairness in rough conditions both the Yamaha and the Hurricane are going to beat you up compared to an offshore center console but the Hurricane will probably beat you up a little less. The free board on the Sundeck series should be very similar to the Yamaha as Hurricane as stepped that up in the newer models. I would how ever avoid the Sundeck Sport and the fun deck models you will not be happy with those at all in the Gulf. Maintenance is a two way story. If you plan to have a local shop do service the Hurricane will probably be cheaper but if you plan to do it your self they will probably be about the same with the Yamaha possibly being slightly less. As already mentioned used will save you some money on either both boats will take a beating in that category as soon as you leave the show room new. I would look for a 2010-14 or a 2015+ model Yamaha is going used or a 2011 or newer Sundeck 2200 or 2400.

2. (b) I'll be posting my boat for sale here shortly. You can check out the modifications I've made to her... Search using my handle.

Thanks all for the help. Another question - does any water that comes into the boat, for example if u stuff the bow in a wave, does that water drain end up in the engine compartment and then the bilge pumps it out? I am just concerned that when I take the boat to the coast if I do take water in that it won't be near the engine and cause corrosion issues later on .

Yamahas have scuppers that drain the floor deck. They are rated as self bailing and all water above the bilge will go out through the scupper. I have splashed water over the bow in the Gulf and crossing to Bimini many times without any issue.

The engine compartment and the bilge are connected. The bilge pump is at the back of the engine compartment. If the bilge pump is overwhelmed water will start to work its way up the engines. Something has to go really wrong for this to happen.

The 24s are self bailing? I thought they drained into the bilge?
