I don't think the rings mark any quantity. I would guess you are at 3/4 full capacity. Do you know the capacity? Got any empty oil quarts to fill?

I have that same extractor and the lines are close to 1 quart each, but not quite. I think they may be liters as my self marked lines are just shy of each line and digressing as it increases. I marked quart lines on mine with water. So maybe just do a liter to quart conversion... figure 5.2 liters in your picture equals about 5.5 quarts...

I did same as @jawsf16
and I believe he is correct, those are liter marks.

I have the same extractor, and was fooled by the marks too. If they are liter, they aren't accurate, and I'm not sure at what point you read it (ie: bottom of the mark, top of the mark, middle of the mark?). I ended up over filling my engine by about 1/2 liter because of this.

The extractor works great, but the marking mechanism is dumb in my opinion. I will do like the others said, and put real marks on it before I use it next time.

Each line is 1 litre. Great extractor except that it holds 6 liters and I need it to hold 7, so I have to empty between motors when extracting oil. I am not sure why others would want exact measurement lines. If you measure with the engine dipstick before extracting the oil you know exactly where to fill it to. What comes out is less important. At least that's what I do. Cam.

Is it really just that simple? Doesn't it take time for the oil to settle and the oil level before/running the motor may be different? I have found a pretty significant difference in the dip stick reading before/after running the engine.

My procedure is quite simple. I check the level on the dipstick first, knowing that it reflects whatever my on-the-water level is that I verified during the summer. At my driveway boat angle the level is 1/4 mark above full. I change the oil, putting almost the right amount in, based on the litre marks for oil removed. Historically I can get out 3.5 litres so I put in 3 litres. I usually fill up the oil filters with oil about 1/2 way before I put them on. It soaks in and doesn't spill. I run the engine for 30 sec to stabilize the oil level then stop the engine and top up the reservoir to my proper level mark. I typically overfill my engines a touch without any air filter oiling evident. This year I did a bad job with the ziplocks and made a mess when removing the oil filter. Hope this helps. Cam.

I managed to get about 3.5L out as well, the boat sits on an upward angle on my driveway so that may have "helped". What method do you use with the zip locks? I found that the doggie training pad method "worked", but left a lot of potential for mess also.

I always measure with an empty 1 quart bottle to be on the safe side. I put back exactly what I took out + a bit for the oil filter, then run the engine on the hose for 10+minutes and re-check the level. I also have a great way to take off the oil filter without making any mess, I get a large Ziploc Gallon Storage bag and open it under and around the oil filter, as the oil drips it goes into the bag, once I remove the filter I drop it into the bag, zip it up = no mess.
