I'm in New Jersey and have two permits that should be coming in soon. This would be for home protection and just to use at the range since we cant carry in NJ. I want to add a revolver I currently have a Glock 19 and a Kel Tec KSG shotgun. Im going to get a .22 with the other permit to have fun with and try to get my wife into shooting. I basically just like the looks of the Ruger LCR and read some nice reviews about it. I know the recoil will prob be a bit much in a light snubbie when using 357, but when I want to shoot multiple rounds at the range I figure I can use .38 special rounds. Anyone have one or any thoughts appreciated.

My brother and dad each have one. It would be my small revolver of choice. It's quite tame with 38 but can wear you out in 357 or +p Highly recommend!

I have 2 LCR's. The 38+p and the 22. The 357 is ridiculous. The 38 is very snappy, like when you hit a baseball with an aluminum bat wrong and it stings your hand. The trigger is sweet on the 38. Stiffer on the 22 but still smooth. I originally bought the 38 for the Mrs but practicing with it bothers her hand. That's why I bought the 22. She can shoot it all day long. I have the 38 in my pocket in a holster as we speak. The Mrs carries the 22 for now. It's 8 shot. Don't bother with the 22 magnum. The barrel is too short to make much of a difference in velocity in the 22's. Something like 30fps different. Don't bother with the laser sight grip. It's too hard and really stings. Just get the one with the hogue tamers and practice. The 22 will put them all in the bull at 10 yds. The 38 just a little wider. But it's a 1 7/8 barrel.

Thanks for the responses guys I have been hearing good things about it. I was leaning toward the browing buckmark .22 or possibly even the ruger sr22. I like the look of the sr22 much better but haven't shot it. My buddy has the browning I shot it last week and I really liked the way it shot. Very accurate. Going to let my wife test those out before purchasing.

My dad has the sr22! It is a nice little gun, but I think I like the grip of the Walther P22 a little better (although I have not shot the Walther). My dad likes the sr22 a lot so I think you can't go wrong either way. My 10/12 year old girls liked the sr22 also. They have lots of time on my 15/22 Smith & Wesson but that was their first handgun experience.

I have a 38 LCR . You will need to spend some time at the range getting used to the recoil. I haven't been able to find an ankle holster I like.

I use an uncle mikes #4 pocket holster.

nice mcmark

My thinking is that if you want a revolver and you do not want to carry it I would go for something larger with a more traditional design. I am not a fan of revolvers in general so I am not a good reference here. Something like an XD 45 would be much higher on my purchase list. It is tough, effective, has a grip safety, will eat almost any ammo, is almost as accurate as a match 1911 and is incredibly reliable even after thousands of rounds.

I just want to add a revolver to my collection. I too think this is a bit untraditional but I like the style and inside hammer. I can always get another one I suppose if I don't like it.

What are the handgun laws by some of you guys. In NJ we can buy 1 handgun a month and have 90 days to do so once issued the permit. You need a permit for each handgun you want. The permits take about 4-6 weeks lately to be issued. So once I make a purchase I cant purchase again for another month. Carrying is nearly impossible here. Long guns can be bought at any time with just your firearms ID card. You just have to pass the nics background check.

Wow, and some people think we need more gun control/too easy to purchase guns?!

You can purchase handguns whenever you want?

Everyone in every State has to fill out a Form 4473, then go through a Federal Background Check. Now certain States have additional requirements like California, you have to also take a written test, then a 10 day waiting period to pick up your firearm after you have completed the background check. All States are different with their gun laws.

Here in Arizona, I have a concealed carry permit, I go into any gun store, pick out what I want, fill out the Form 4473, I do not need a background check because I am already cleared with my permit being fingerprinted and background check already done and on file with my permit. So I can usually be in and out with whatever I want to buy within 10-15 minutes.

For private party sales in Arizona you must be a legal resident, show proof you are over 18, then a show of your drivers license is typical between buyers and sellers.

See, this makes me think the concept of "Gun Control" was thought up by our wives to slow us down a little. ;)

I saw an Bushmaster AR on a clearance deal the other day but - having recently picked up a 1911 - passed on it. When I told the wife, she wasn't happy that I was even thinking about another gun so soon. So I bought John his first pellet gun instead. :)

That seems so nice and simple. I too have been cleared via fingerprints, mental health check, and background check yet we still have to get a permit for every handgun. Sometimes takes months to get cleared so annoying.

Lol, my Wife is the absolute coolest Wife, she let's me buy as much as I want - but the safe is pretty full right now, so I am good. I am also a Certified NRA Instructor, used to teach a lot of courses, but these days I do not teach any longer unless it's a friend or relative, was burning the candle at both ends with work and instructing on nights and weekends.

I despise Nanny States, Arizona is one of a handful of states left with excellent gun rights/laws.
