Hi all, I am going to be moving my reverse cable on my SX195 to the left side so I can attach it to a waverunner reverse bucket, what is the best way to seal up the hole where it comes through now without permanently filling the hole in? I was thinking of finding a broken reverse cable and use the plastic fitting that goes through the hole in the hull, but seal up where the cable would go through. I added a picture of what I would use, the threaded fitting on mine is about 3/4”. If anybody has a 3/4” fitting like in the picture please let me know and we can make a deal on it,

thanks for any suggestions

Chuck

why not a stainless bolt and 2 pan washers? Some silicone, tighten, and hole covered? Just a thought.

Or a PVC plug... Same idea.

So I tried to remove the cable from the center but I can‘t get the nut off on the outside, I’m beginning to think the nut is not removeable, it’s a 2019 SX195, I saw the post on changing the reverse cable and that nut he shows in the pics is about 1” long, mine is about 3/8”. I used a tool for removing water supply lines from a kitchen faucet, it fit the nut perfectly but it doesn’t budge. I tried finding a picture of the actual cable but there aren’t any. Does anybody know if that nut is removable?

Not sure (don't have that year, but my guess would be it is removable), but I would inspect around the nut to see if they put 4200/5200 on it. If so, some Debond may be needed to get it free...

Also, check one of the parts websites (see the FAQ). They usually have parts diagrams. See if the nut is listed as a separate part.

Thanks, the nut is part of the cable so that’s why I’m questioning it, I called the dealer and they don’t have the cable in stock to see if it comes off, he looked in a service manual too but it didn’t tell him much. I don’t see any caulk or silicon around the outside nut so I’m kind of at a loss, I might buy a cable just to see what it looks like and return it.

66 is the inside nut, I was trying to unscrew the nut on the outside and I think it’s a permanent part of the cable and doesn’t unscrew. They redesigned the cable from 2018 to 2019.

I suppose it is possible. But the breakouts don't show any nut-shaped thing on the end of the 63 part. Maybe someone with a 2019 can chime in...

Does it have an actual part# we can look up. Quite possibly the inside nut is the one that unscrews and the outside is just to hold it in place.

The only part number are the inside nut and the gasket. I think you are right about the outside nut, unfortunately that means I have to disconnect it from the throttle to move it since I can’t push it through the transom

I think the inside and outside nut are part of the same assembly. Parts sites don't show a big thing at the end of the cable part. Therefore, I doubt the nuts are attached to the cable, but I would readily believe that there is a lip or something on the cable so that the cable won't move past the nut in one direction. You may still be stuck pulling the front end. Still odd that you can't unscrew the nut. You got the inside one off?

The inside one came right off, no problem.

Sounds like someone used 5200 as the sealant or something. Once that inside one is off, the outside one is supposed to push outward out of the transom. There is supposed to be silicone around the nuts to seal the connection, but sometimes people get a little nuts (every pun intended) and put much stronger stuff there besides silicone.

I would put the inside nut mostly back on and see if you can tap the edges of it (carefully!) with a hammer to dislodge the other half. If not, I would soak that inside part in Debond to loosen whatever whoever sealed that sucker with.
