Scarab 165 reverse gate

I just replace the shift cable on my 2015 165. Now the bucket doesn’t seem to go up all the way when in Forward. Not sure if it did before or not. 2 questions… is the gate supposed to “lock” up when in forward (mine does not)? I see it has a latch but it doesn’t go far enough to engage. And, how do you adjust it? I adjusted as far as I could at the shifter but is there any other way? Is it the brass fitting that is screwed on in the back? Doesn’t seem like that would really do anything but thinking I am wrong. Thanks for any guidance.

It does not HAVE to latch, but it certainly can. It needs to clear the nozzle completely when in full forward. Half covered when in neutral and fully covered when in reverse. Newer boats don't have the the latch plate at all since BRP decided it was unnecessary for the bucket to latch. But mine still does and it does latch.

The brass fitting is exactly where this is adjusted. It's where the biggest difference will be. The shifter is just a minor adjustment if needed. The brass fitting needs to be pulled out of the slot and rotated one way or the other accordingly. Spin it a few times in one direction, then reinsert it into the slot. If you spin it too many times in one go, you'll have a hard time pushing or pulling the cable to line it up. So I'd do a turn or two at a time, insert and see how it pulls the bucket.

Spinning that brass part tightens or loosens the cable by quite a bit.
