While I was cleaning the boat today I came across a nice scratch on the bottom of the boat right on the keel. It looks and feels like if someone keyed your car. It’s got that jagged edge to it. It is not very deep at all but I need to fix it and then I think I’m going to get a keel guard. I am guessing that it happened 2 weeks ago as I was loading the boat some moron came flying by the launch and his wake sent me sideways on the trailer and I busted my bunk. I was reading through the forum and saw Spectrum gel coat repair. Is this what I should use? Here is a picture of the scratch.

The picture is too close to really tell what and where this is. If it's on the keel I would use Marine-Tex, sand it, apply, wait and sand it down. The stuff dries to a hard finish like glass. Then place the keel guard on that. I had some chipped on my keel and with the advice from this forum, that's what I did.

Buff that with rubbing compound, you may be surprised at how that goes away. I had a big one like that from a dock on the side of our previous black boat. I made it all but go away with buffing.

Also keep in mind, if it's not to the fiberglass, which it is not, and will be covered by Keelshield, then this is a non issue. Buff what will be seen and cover it with the shield. Game over.

Good luck.
