Sound System Upgrade

Going to upgrade the original sound system on my boat... 2016 242 LS. Got 8 Kicker speakers and working with local place to install. However, they are quoting me for a 8x100 amplifier and a 10" subwoofer, plus all the cabling and stuff... they are saying that they will bundle 2 pairs of speaker on 2 channels that way they have enough channels for the subwoofer... I don't like that idea... shouldn't I need a separate amplifier for the subwoofer or do they know what they are doing? 8 speakers should use the whole capacity of that amplifier, correct?

What’s the power requirement the sub? That will give you an idea of whether the amp is strong enough.

Lots of people on this forum that are more knowledgeable than me but from all the research I’ve done, nothing wrong with putting two speakers on the same channel as long as they’re rated for it. Just make sure they're wired in parallel, not series. Also check the specs on the amp to make sure it can handle this. Most can I believe.

If the amp is rated down to 2 ohm loads, then yes doubling up speakers in parallel is ok. Only issue is weaker amps don't put out as much power when parallel speakers are connected and max volume is not as high. Ideally all speakers should be on their own channel, but doubling up is ok with good equipment.
