I am an audio novice.... Question. I've already had my two console speakers blow. I am in the process of replacing those speakers. This boat is so dang loud. It drives me crazy. What I want to do is add two 8" speakers under the console. I know people have put subs there. Are subs really necessary? I don't care about all that bass. We like to cruise and mainly listen to modern country music. I've been looking at Skar 8" marine speakers and the kicker 8" marine speakers. I'd like to replace the amp as well. Looking mainly for some guidance and why someone would want a subwoofer versus just upgrading our speakers and amp. I am replacing the side center console speakers with either the skar 6.5 or the kicker 6.5 speakers. Thanks in advance.

I'm using the kickers and JL amps. Love the sound from the kickers. Adding a pair of 8's will provide a noticeable amount of mid bass kick in my opinion. You can always add a sub later if you feel you need more bass.

I run 4 jl audio 6.5s, 2 7.7s, and 1 10” sub. The sound is incredible, but it would also sound fine without the 10”. Adding the amp to a pair of 6.5s will be night and day to your old setup. The proper 8” will sound really good

I would run the kicker 8’s, they’re a phenominal speaker for the price, and kicker has a great warranty as well.

As for replacing the amplifier, make sure your amp is able to power the speakers to rms or even provide headroom.

In addition, I make integration harnesses which help to make amp replacements seamless, give me a shout and we’ll get you setup!
