Today we had a great day on the lake without any issues. We decided to head back and youngest wanted to tube back to marina. We left the cove and about 5 min into the tow felt like I hit something but realized I lost power in the starboard engine. I slowed and tried to accelerate again and it was good to about 2k rpm then revs up but no thrust. It sounded a little different than the port engine as well. Tried reverse and same. Checked the porthole debris plugs and saw nothing. Left it off and cruised for a while on the port engine thinkingnsomething was clogging it and maybe just would flush out. No joy. Ended up cruising back on one engine. Will pull the boat out tomorrow for a thorough inspection of the intake.

Any ideas what's going on?

When you checked the clean out ports did you feel around for debris? Simply pulling and looking will tell you nothing. It sounds like you sucked something up into that impeller for sure if you have no thrust but revs up.

When you say “cruised” back on one engine I hope you meant limped back, like no more than 5mph. You run the risk of water backfilling the off engine through the cooling lines if you go too fast while on one engine.

Yep we limped back. Took 45 minutes. It puts out some thrust at idle I think. Pulled it out today and checked intake side and I didn't see anything and yeah I felt around and didn't feel anything.

Sometimes you need to pull the pump to find something stuck in it, I know many on here have ultimately found the issue when the pump was pulled!

Whoa. Okay cool thanks for the reply and input!

It could be something as tiny as a piece of fishing line, or a toothpick sized piece of wood wedged in there. Also look for any missing or loose silicone on the intake area of the pump. Hope you figure it out soon.

Yes, pulling the pumps is not as daunting as it sounds. Lots of good threads on here with info, photos, videos... start with the FAQ.
