Got a small gash today. Someones boat came loose and decided to contact mine. About 1 inch long, 1/4 inch high and about1/16 deep. It is into the glass. Well above the water line. They are going to pay to have it repaired but I am not taking my boat out of the water until the end of the season. So what do I do with it until then?

Maybe @Glassman would have a thought or two to share on this

Sounds like a pretty tiny defect, and since it's above waterline I would think about sealing with a silicone that matches the existing gelcoat. Whoever is repairing it will likely need to grind it out anyway prior to repairing.

I have used like-colored enamel model paint on deep ones before. Like @seanmclean said, they will grind it out for the official gelcoat repair. I worry a little about silicone since it can stick to the grinding tools and recontaminate possibly causing adhesion issues with the repair.

I am going to get an estimate this weekend from the Marina I store my boat, may be able to just get it fixed without disrupting the summer.

You could fill it in with Marine Tex, but that might make the eventual fiberglass repair a little more difficult.
