For those in the know, am i reading this right? Because i live in Calif the first two boats i can look at are the SX190 & AR190, and if i want a little more the very next boat avail is the 212 or the 212S a 23K or 24K jump just because theres nothing in between thats calif legal??? Is there any kind of work around to get a 195S ?
Has anyone ever bought a 195S in CA ? I dont mind saying this really blows!!!

Just Curious if you were to buy a used Yammi say one with a TR-1 or supercharged engine could you even register it here in Cali?

Why wouldn’t they let you register the TR1 motors? I guess voting really does matter.

I am in the same boat ( no pun intended). :). I had my heart set on a FSH 210 and when my local dealer said i couldn't get one, I called up Yamaha and they confirmed that there were only select boats were CARB certified. I was like WTF! I can't get a new freaking boat? Why wouldn't Yamaha spend the small amount of money to make the engines compliant? BTW I then called Yamaha back and Also confirmed that no 2021 FSH either ?. I really need to find out how I can get one. Am I allowed to purchase out of state (new and /or used) and register in Cali? . Any members or dealers know how I can do this?

My understanding, you can purchase one in AZ (not sure where everyone lives), but you can buy it there and then register it in AZ as a Non-Resident.... There is a fee to do so, but I hear it’s less than the stupid Luxury Tax CA charges us..... oh, and I think the same goes for Nevada as well, and I think their ‘fee’ is less than Arizona’s.
I’m not 100% sure on the details of all this, but I’m in the same boat (pun intended :D).... cuz the two boats I’m interested in are the Yamaha 255XE or the Scarab 255ID, both having engines not sold in CA!... aaarrgggg!!!! (Still doing research on the Scarabs.... they look nice, but sure seems like they have more issues than the Yamahas)

Thanks man for the info. Dang. I didn't Realize that the Scarab 255 Open was also not CARB certified. I was thinking of that only because I couldn't get an FSH (in any size). The more I researched it the more it grew on me.. Even with the tradeoffs...

???

For the out of state purchase... Wouldn't I eventually have to register it here in Cali? Like a car? If I don't and Can keep registering as out of state every year than I am in!!! :).

Also in another thread a person mentioned that the CARB requirement may have a loophole. On the DMV form it specifically specifies I/O or stern drive must have CARB compliance evidence, but not Jet. Yet on the engine type there is a seperate Jet check box. So the thinking was check the jet box ( as that is what the engines are considered) and then you would actually by the wording not be required to provide proof of CARB compliance.

Has anyone done this? My better half just laughs at me when I suggested it and said. If you are going to get a 50k+ boat... You better make sure you can legally run it here.. Lol

Getting desperate. Especially now that yamaha came out with their new. 25'.

Is there any forum members or dealers that have successfully gotten FSH registered in Cali?

Let us know.

:)

You can register it as a non resident in Arizona. Requires a yearly fee to fish and wildlife. Trailer register in CA.

I have heard it ia possible to register in CA and list as jet drive (not stern drive) like the waverunners, but probably will require some back and forth with DMV. It’s easy to register as a non resident, so I dont really see the reason to register in CA.

I moved my boat registration 2 years ago to NH, of which I am a non resident, there are no residence requirements to register in NH. South Carolina has a personal property tax on all toys and vehicles, possibly similar to the Luxury Tax in CA. South Carolina has their own value assessment scale, this was costing me about $1,100.00 annually for the first 2 years of registration here in SC because the boat was so new (2016) plus the small tri-annualy DNR fee. The NH onetime annual registration fee is about $140.00 and depreciates each year. There are a few caveats to this, the first registration to NH required me to show up in person to prove ownership, going forward all registrations are done VIA mail. NH is a no title state for boats. Fortunately I did have my title as I paid the boat off within 6 months of purchase. If there was still a lien on my title this would've caused conflict with the local lending bank and insurance regarding the 2 addresses. I made a color photo copy of my SC title to possibly eliminate any issues if I should sell down the road. In that case I would simply transfer the title back to SC and have proof that it was already titled here. My boat is trailered, NH requires the trailer to be titled and registered in their state, which requires a NH address, fortunately SC does not require title or registration of work/recreational trailers when used within the state.
Lastly SC allows all out of state registered boats to operate on it's waters for no more than 30 or 60 days without requiring a SC registration. I'm lucky if my boat is out more than 10 hours per year. Although what I have done is completely legal and saving me money each year, you may really need to look into the requirements for out of state registration as it may be a real PIA.
