I now have in my 2017 dodge ram 1500, a class IV receiving hitch, the gen y torsional ball hitch, and the longhorn package which gives a better geared tranny. Well even with all that my truck drives like a fucking Cadillac not a truck. That's great until your towing over 8000lbs with a tongue weight near 900 lbs. So I upgraded last night. Got the best towing tires Les Schwab had, and added airbags to my rear suspension with a air station to blow shit up. Now she rides like a truck lol. That's pretty sweet! I went with airlift 1000 on my jeep. Granted I was surprised mine didn't sag hardly at all with my 212x. However, I wanted the stiffer rear to help with any kind of sway. My plan next year is to retire the jeep from towing duties to purely for top off fun and get a used Rebel with the auto load leveling air suspension.

Long horn Package doesn’t give different or “ Better gearing” the 8 speed tranny is the same across all trim levels and the gears range from 3:21”s up to 3:92”s. That hemi with the 8 speed and even 3:21”s has more than enough Grunt to move 8k. May want to look into better rotors/pads/ss brake lines. Stopping 8k in an emergency will get dicey real fast because that boat weighs more than the truck.

Lots of good info on the forum below. I’m a member and have been since 2013.

8k is a pretty decent amount of weight for a half ton.
Grats on the Air bags!!

It lists it as part of the longhorn package on the original sticker but that could just be marketing bullshit. The brakes on this truck are actually great. And I have electric trailer brakes which are imo superior to surge brakes. Thanks it was a good upgrade. I think it was also needed with the amount of tongue weight.

Ya it’s just a gimic on the gears and trim. And ya electric brakes are night and day compared to surge. I traded my 14 mega cab 2500 6.4 hemi in for our current 18 1500 because we weren’t towing heavy any more, they do ride nice but I’ll admit I’m used to my old 3/4 ton handling like a truck, but our 212 weighs damn near nothing so it does just fine. But them wake boats are MONSTROUS lol.

Your up north, next time you are going to buy new check out Dennis Dillion and Dave Smith in Idaho... best prices in the Nation. And Dave smith owns that whole damn town where he is so he’s got a dealership for every brand lol.

Wanna know something crazy about Dave Smith. They sell more trucks than people in the town a year. They can buy every customers interest down to zero if they choose to forever. They have that much credit with certain banks. He may also still be only GM dealer in the nation who doesn't have to have service bays. Also a crazy rumor about he died in a rafting trip. This Truck is paid off so it's staying with me awhile.

Ya they do a ridiculous amount of Buisness I think he owns all the dealerships there in Kellogg. It’s amazing, they don’t get trucks by the semi load.. they get em by the train load lol, like 3000 trucks on the lot at any given time lol. I see his paper plates all over Ca/Az/Nv
