I purchased a 2015 Yamaha 242 limited S that I will be picking up in about 3 weeks when I get home. I have a 2012 Ford F150 and need to understand that type of trailer brakes are on the trailer and what hookups needed from my truck are needed. This is my first boat so I'm a little ignorant to this so it's ok to treat my like I'm stupid...LOL. I don't have the trailer brake controller in my truck but it can be installed quite easily if needed.

Thanks in advance for any help provided.

The trailer has surge brakes. No hookup needed. It takes just a minute to get used to the bump of the brakes releasing when starting out but mine work well and haul the boat down to a stop pretty quick.

The lighting is a flat five connector.

If your truck has a 7 plug outlet you will need a 7-5 pin adapter. Can be purchased at Walmart or any store that sells trailering supplies.

If your truck only has a 4 pin plug for lights, you will need to purchase a plug adapter that has 4 pins and one additional wire coming from one end. The other end would have a 5 pin plug for the trailer. The additional wire coming from the 4 plug end will need to be wired into your reverse lights. You can buy these at any automotive store or store that sells trailering supplies.
