While browsing around on a Facebook page called Lafayette/West Lafayette Nostalgia. Which is a page with old pictures and stories of Lafayette, IN. I came across a couple pictures of a 1963 proposal to create a reservoir just east of the city. It would have created a lake that would have encompassed 19,230 acres, and would have easily been the largest lake in Indiana. To put this in perspective, at least for the folks that visit Shelbyville every year. Lake Shelbyville is 11,100 acres. Unfortunately, according to one of the comments. The opposition started with one individual that began a crusade that eventually got the project squashed. Oh what a missed opportunity. I can't imagine what it would have been like to have a lake that big so close to my home. 10401611_10152632934300798_8448855097820667417_n.jpg 10599151_10152632934255798_4679406630452239241_n.jpg

Damn, what a shame! I grew up in Lafayette and would have loved to have had that lake.

Too bad, that would have dramatically increased property values in the area. Today you'd be lucky to get a duck pond in with all the regulations.
