I was in Canada, Windsor with my girlfriend we were at the Casino and was worried they would not let us back across the bridge. Took 5 hours to get across the bridge back into Detroit. Couldn't get any information while just sitting there in traffic.

I was sitting at an airport getting ready to take off when tower came on the radio and told me to shut down, all airspace was closed!!!! I will never forget or forgive what those bastards did, but I fear many in this country will!

What a wonderful tribute to those lost on 9/11 and due to 9/11.

Lived and worked in NYC then. My office was at 54th and Madison. Saw it all from the 23rd floor. The day changed me. I don’t really talk about it with anyone but I appreciate this thread, it’s important to acknowledge it every year. I agree with the others though that as awful as those events were, the sense of togetherness we had afterwards is something I wish we as a country could find again.

My mother made a comment to that affect this weekend. Hates that 9/11 had to happen, but really appreciated the day of 9/12 due to the "united front" that country had. That level of "in this shit together; lets get it done" hasn't been seen since.

I was originally supposed to be in Mexico doing start up on a piece of equipment, but had other commitments. Guys that went in my place got stranded and couldn't get flights home, they ended up driving home. I was in my cubicle at work listening to Howard Stern on the radio, the planes hit the towers as he was on the air. He was describing what was going on before the news stations started to cover it. Once the news came on TV a bunch of us gathered in a conference room to watch and not much was said. Flight 93 flew damn near over my house.
I've visited the Flight 93 memorial and it brings out a bunch of different emotions. I can't describe the feeling you get walking up to the visitor center when you realize the walkway is the flight path of the plane. The walkway ends at an overlook where you can see the boulder that marks impact area. There are recovered items on from the crash, including items from the hijackers on display. There's a display with items and notes left by people for the emergency personnel and the people on the plane. There are phones where you can listen to recordings from the passengers, I couldn't make past one recording. You can walk down to the debris field, but the impact site can only be visited by family members. As someone mentioned above it's quiet there, a different kind of quiet that I can't describe. It's a place that you visit once and it's etched into your memory.
I wanted to watch the ceremony over the weekend, but it was tough and I had to turn it off.
