This is the press release that accompanied the announcement at the Miami International Boat Show. Yamaha is taking deposits at the show for June delivery so I expect to see new 190 FSH owners joining our forum this summer.

YAMAHA UNVEILS FIRST JET-POWERED CENTER CONSOLE BOAT

Designed for fishing in the morning and hours of family fun in the afternoon

Miami, FL – February 12, 2015 -- Yamaha WaterCraft Group, a division of Yamaha Motor Corporation, U.S.A., today introduced the 19-foot 190 FSH™ boat series, the first family fishing boat of its kind and the first center console model offered by the #1 selling brand of jet-powered runabouts. The unveiling took place at Yamaha’s booth at the 2015 Miami International Boat Show®.

Featuring Yamaha’s award-winning design that provides an unobstructed 360-degree experience and the many benefits of Yamaha jet power to include an ultra shallow draft and Yamaha’s exclusive stern lounging area, the 190 FSH is designed to offer family friendly amenities for spending an entire day out on the water combined with all the features fishing enthusiasts desire.

For 2015, the 190 FSH is available in three variations that include the base model 190 FSH, an upgraded 190 FSH Deluxe, and the flagship 190 FSH Sport that offers many of the features of the Deluxe with the addition of a custom T-top. All three models come with Yamaha's high-performance 1.8L High Output marine engine.

Deluxe model upgrades include wiring for dual batteries, stainless steel rub-rail, head compartment curtain, upgraded seating/cushions and bow pedestal seat.

“When conceptualizing this boat, we spent a lot of time with professional fishing guides to garner insight into the features and functionality that would be necessary for fishing. Then we combined that knowledge with our expertise designing our industry leading family runabouts and innovated on both fronts to create something completely new,” said Scott Watkins, product manager for Yamaha Watercraft. “The result is a boat we’ve always wanted to make, that leverages the unique capabilities of our jet drive system and offers all the right features for both family fun and fishing.”

190 FSH Walkthrough

The bow of the 190 FSH is large and wide and comes with a pedestal mount and fishing seat on the Deluxe model. Two large storage compartments and a large built in self-draining cooler are just an arm’s length away. A deep, oversized anchor locker completes the bow area.

The Cockpit

The 190 FSH cockpit is remarkably roomy for a 19-foot boat and Yamaha makes the most of every inch with a comfortable bench seat that is integrated into the front of the center console.

The bench seat and front of the center console lift up to reveal an extra deep, large storage area that can also serve as a changing room or a head compartment thanks to the curtain enclosure that is included on the Deluxe and Sport models.

This compartment can also store equipment and recreational items and offers convenient access to the backside of the helm for easy service and installing aftermarket marine electronics. On the sides of the center console are six vertical rod holders, three on each side. Four additional rod holders are located under the gunnels on the port and starboard sides. With the addition of four flush mount rod holders on the deck, there are a total of 14 rod holders across the boat.

The Helm

The helm is thoughtfully designed with a simple to remove windshield for low profile storage, a stainless steel sport steering wheel, easy access to all boat control switches, a locking glove box, and an open area to flush mount electronics such as a fish finder, a GPS unit, and other marine electronics.

Completing the helm is an angled footrest for comfort and stability when underway. Behind the helm is a padded leaning post with a backrest (on Deluxe and Sport). Under the lean post is a dedicated space for a second cooler which is included on all models.

On the port side aft of the helm is more dedicated storage along with easy battery access. On the starboard side is an 18-gallon live well with two pumps -- one to fill the live well and a second pump for the recirculation system that is controlled at the helm.

Yamaha’s 190 FSH Series also features a raw water Jet Wash™ washdown system that utilizes water thrust from the jet drive system to allow boat owners to easily clean their deck without needing an additional pump.

The Transom

The transom area on the FSH Series is unlike any other center console boat on the market. Since the engine and drive train are mounted in the hull, the entire back of the boat is open for unobstructed casting, towing and enjoying activities on the back of the boat. On the Deluxe and Sport models, the lean post is convertible and can be flipped back toward the helm for added comfort and versatility.

The 190 FSH features Yamaha's signature two-tier swim platform that sits low at the water’s edge. A retractable stern ladder makes reboarding after swimming a breeze. The transom also includes a tow eye for watersports.

Like all Yamaha boats, the 190 FSH features a patented clean out port that allows for the removing of debris from the jet pump without having to get in the water or swim under the boat.

Rounding out the FSH’s list of innovations is the addition of Yamaha’s Articulating Keel, the latest in Yamaha’s Advanced Responsive Handling features. The Articulating Keel is an extension of the boat’s keel that moves and tracks along with the jet pump nozzle to provide comfort, stability and tracking at all speeds.

Interesting things:

--Different keel design (looks a lot more like a rudder than the 24's)
--Aluminum trailer available instead of galvanized
--Jet Wash wash-down system looks cool, but the pressure looks pretty weak in the promo video

Overall I like it. I'm not a center-console fishing guy but this looks compelling. Obviously it is marketed for salt water use, the biggest drawback here (compared to the Yamaha outboards that many sea-goers use) is the open cooling system. Wonder if they will make an optional closed loop system...
