wanted to post in here and ask if anyone else has been to Lake Powell from a normally lower elevation and notice a lack in power? I expected a little, but, not as much as I've experienced. 30 knots is all I can muster and it takes forever to come on plane. Being fuel injected, not many (if any) adjustments I can make.

Any other suggestions?

@txav8r is there right now. He is from Texas, so I'm sure he can chime in on the performance he has seen over the past couple days.

Yes, I know. We are 2 RV spots away from each other, however, unfortunately we haven't been able to sync up. Have been meaning to ask him, but, thought maybe someone else had already experienced it.

Yes the altitude change does affect our boats up there, not much you can do unless you want to swap impellers each trip to Lake Powell. Back when we had a Inboard/Outboard I had a different Prop for Lake Havasu (darn near sea level) and then a different pitched Prop for Lake Powell (3700ft).

Howdy Brett, @MeaCulpaAR210 , we seem to have missed you guys everyday. Yesterday we didn't boat with all that wind. We did the tour of the upper antelope canyons. But the day before, we made the run to Rainbow Bridge and it was glass going and very windy coming back with large chop and waves. My boat runs 49 these days weighted as it is at sea level. When it was new and no mods I ran 52. Here on Powell, I'm getting 43. Loading is magnified and if you are pretty full, move folks up front to distribute the weight to help plane easier. Density altitude is a heavy hammer it take longer than normal for me to get out from a stop and on plane too. Your in a 210 with a tower and I have read that guys with 210's are in the 30's at higher elevations. Bottom line, I don't think you have anything wrong with your boat, it just doesn't have extra power to overcome the additional density altitude from sea level. Also, the winds and waves can make it seem even more degraded. I take it that this is your first time to Lake Powell too?

Mel,@txav8r just that, the elevation. I just wanted to hear from others. We did go out yesterday and it was horrible. Fought it out and fought it back. Glad to hear you got to Rainbow bridge. Let's try and sync up this afternoon! The group I'm with is wanting to head out farther today to dangling rope. Should be a great day for it!

Thx for the reply @AZDANSX230HO, looks like we'll have at least a much calmer day on the water today!

It's been very windy here in Northern Arizona the last couple of days, Lake Powell is no fun with wind and big waves. The weather forecast looks much better up there today with 11 mph winds, you guys have fun today!!!

Brett, @MeaCulpaAR210 , today, we are taking a helicopter tour and raft ride from the dam through horseshoe canyon. We get back around 4 and probably back here shortly after that. We should be here cleaning up in that time frame and let's visit this evening then. Have a great day out there! Oh, it is only about 8 miles past dangling rope to Rainbow...you don't want to miss it if your that close! When we went, I still had 3/4 tank from running WOT all the way there. So we stopped at dangling rope on the way back. If you only manage 30, watch your fuel and maybe fill up going and coming. Hey, it gives you a shot at ice cream twice!:winkingthumbsup"

@txav8r,

Sounds like a great tour. I'll look you up when we get back today!

Hilarious! Guys camped two sites away from each other communicating over the forum. The millennial generation would be proud!

I have a 242 LS that I bought in Denver. The dealer changed the impellars for higher altitude like Lake Powell. We boat almost exclusively at Powell and have hit 48 mph with almost full fuel and 6 aboard. We have no problem getting on plane. I think the re-pitched impellars make all the difference. Hope you enjoy Lake Powell, there is no better place to be.

A friend has an older 210 without HO engines, I have a 2006 230 with HO engines. When we boated together are Bear Lake (around 6,000 ft elevation) his boat was much more affected by the elevation. I'm not sure if the 2009 AR 210 has HO engines or not - but that I believe the non HO engines/boats are much more affected by elevation.

That said, my 2006 230 w/ HO engines goes faster at Lake Powell than the other places I normally boat (Bear Lake UT/ID at 6,000, Utah Lake at 4,400, Redfish Lake ID at 6500) - so I guess it is all relative :)

Take your boat to Lake Havasu which is almost sea level, your boat will run like a raped ape Lol.

Well, we did meet on @MeaCulpaAR210 arriving in the campground. I invited him to join us here at Jetboaters.net!we
Have just been too busy with our individual
Plans to have a chance to visit, as he was setting up and getting the boat situated when I saw another Yamaha. You should here my wife, "honey, leave the poor guy alone, he doesn't care anything about a forum." LOL

Yes, this happens because your screw is pitched too low for the raised altitude. I have 2 sets of screws and noticed that since I normally boat at about 6600' altitude that my high altitude screws are mostly fine for Powell (hence why I'm selling my 3500' altitude screws).

Im with jasoraso. Normally boat around 5k elevation. My 05 HO runs soo much better at Lake Powell. Max speed on gps just the wife and I is around 43-44 depending on the condition.

I get about 48-49MPH at Powell w/ my 6500' impellers. I get the same top-end (49) with my 3500' impellers but my RPM's are about 800 lower per engine at WOT and my holeshot doesn't blow out if I WOT from stop.

My speedometer pickup broke before our trip to Powell on our 2008 SX230 HO, if I remember correctly with our 2006 SX230 we would get 45-47 MPH at Powell.
