I am current looking at a used Yamaha boat. It is advertised as a 2017 and the state registration also lists it as 2017. The HIN ends in "16" and the graphics are consistent with the 2016 models. The HIN on the registration matches the HIN on the boat. It is registered in a non-title state, so there is no title to refer to. Anyone have similar issues with Yamahas or idea why/how this occurred?

Just really curious as I don't think there is much difference between the model years other than re-designed plugs and a little value.

Thanks.

If it ends in a 16 then its a 16 not 17

An unfavorable scenario would be that someone purchased a salvaged 2017 model and swapped over the HIN plate on to a stolen 2016 model in order to have “papers” on it. Some states use a transferable registration in lieu of a title on boats. Another option is that the DMV simply printed the wrong year on the registration.

I've figured it's most likely a typo in registration, maybe originally purchased new as a leftover model.
