Curious how many of you guys believe in the "don't buy the first iteration" mantra. On the other hand, Yamaha has a pretty dang good reputation for engines over the years.

From what I understand, they are to be more fuel efficient than the 1.8's with reduced noise. At least that was what I heard last year. It has been suggested that it will be dropped in the 25' footers with a model update in 2025 models releasing in summer of 2024

So does that mean there will eventually be a Supercharged version. If they are generating 20% more HP for the N/A version a Supercharged version would be pushing 300HP.

Supercharged inline 6 would be awesome. 325hp all day long.

That would be a pretty big and heavier engine. If Yamaha went that way for the jet boats instead of a bigger bore and longer stroke on the 4 cylinder, I would have to think they would be launching a 29' - 30' model where they could fit two of them. Then they could compete with the 29' SDX Sea Ray sport runabout.

Not sure the way of the much bigger engines, V-6, is the route they would take. With today's push toward Electic / alternatives and with some of the lawys being enacted in states a supercharged inline could be a pretty big ask.

V-6's have inherent balance issues, add 2 cylinders in line, runs smooth, stroked and blown 400hp.

2 more cylinders inline, wag, another 125 lbs.

2 in liine 6s would prob net 3.0L Motors .. and probably send these boats (25fters) with twins to 65 mph ! LOL

That's why I said perhaps Yamaha is looking to introduce a 29 footer. The Sea Ray SDX is a similar class so maybe Yamaha wants to have a matching 29' offering. Two supercharged 2.0L 4-cyclinders would probably get it about 50MPH like a 275SD.

My 2 cents :

More Power = Good
More EFFICIENT = MORE SENSORS = PHOOEY.

I'm in on a new motor with more power. As long as it 1) still runs on 87 and 2) it's used in their other vehicles too. I wouldn't worry about being a first time adapter either, Yamaha seems to know engines very well.

Also, with more HP, I wonder if Yamaha could tune the impellers to push more weight through the water... more ballast, more surf wave, less noisy, and still no prop - shut up and take my money.

Hope you got a lot of it. Including yearly price increase and new motor - a 222 will be pushing 90k. A 222XD will be over 100k.

I would prefer to see a step back to an enlarged MR-1 design. The MR-1 HO was 152 HP per liter while the 1.8 is only 100 HP per liter.

A 1,316cc MR-1 could produce 200 HP and a 1,644cc MR-1 could produce 250 HP. An inline 6 MR-1 would be 1,578cc which seems like an excellent size.

1052cc mr1- 11000rpm
1812cc HO - 7500rpm

if you increase bore/stroke you will not be able to keep same rpm

Add two more pistons and you will be at 1,578cc and possibly 240 HP.

I am thinking MR-1 max is 10,200 and R-1 Max is 14,000 in the motorcycle version.

10200 continuously at maximum power (with maximum torque) 14000 for a short time with coasting and a drop in the required torque during acceleration.
