Why do so many people record everyday stuff at 60fps? I can easily see the difference between 1080 and 720 long before I see the difference in 60fps vs 30fps. If you want to get longer record times, I would reduce the frame rate from 60 to 30 before I reduced the resoultion from 1080 to 720. But maybe thats just me?

I only use it because that is what it came set from the factory at. I really haven't had time to mess around with the settings to see if I can tell much of a difference from 60fps to 30fps, but I would venture to guess that I will agree with you once I try it out.

I guess the only thing 60fps would be good for is super duper slow motion filming?

If you record at 60 fps you can do 1/2 speed slow mo with no interpolation.

I personally like recording at 720p 120FPS for exactly that reason. Liquid smooth slo-mo!!

I have one of these cheapo cards. It works great except for when you put the GoPro into any type of action. ie, sledding with my son and the camera bouncing around while attached to the wake tower. Both of these times the video was corrupted and could not be recovered. I purchased the sugested card above and hope this does the trick; however, while researching this issue on the GoPro forums it also mentioned this below:

Gopro is very particular about its relationship with its SD card.
1. don't use the gopro SD card in any other device
2. dont' delete files off the SD card with a PC......put the SD card back into the Gopro in exactly the same format as when you took it out.
3. always "delete all" as the first thing you do when you re insert the SD card into Gopro. As long as the card stays in Gopro you can switch off and on etc as many times as you like. If you remove the card...that is the end of the session.....when you put the card back in use "delete all".
4. don't connect Gopro to a PC....remove the SD card and use a card reader.

I suggest you bin the card you have which is likely corrupted for Gopro purposes now. Start with a clean card and follow the advice above. If you still have problems you may well have corrupted your firmware so you will need to reflash.

Do any of you GoPro users follow the "delete all" method they are referencing?

items 1 and 4 appear to be conflictual, I'm guessing they mean don't use the SD card to share/store/xfer media.....save it for gopro only.
I did a delete all via my gopro the other day and it no longer recognized the card. HAd to format it on my PC to see it again. currently using
Toshiba 64GB MicroSDXC

Makes sense for slo-mo. I know YOU use the highest resolution and largest memory card possible. ;)

I was asking more along the lines of those who want to save space and reduce the resolution but leave the frame rate at 60 fps.

Ordered my GOPRO Hero 3 today. I had a ton of Cabela's gift cards left over from a couple of Christmas gifts to cover the entire thing. Can't wait to play with it (that's what she said)!!!!

Any recommendations on which memory card to buy?

@HawkTX Sorry I missed where you asked for advice on the SD card. But I agree with above ScanDisk extreme are great cards. I actually have a 32 gig and a 64 gig card. At 720 FPS that should make for about seven or more hours of video. We were out in some pretty choppy water and getting banged around on Saturday and I had no issues with it recording. I will try to post a video later on.

@GiddYupJoe were you able to recover anything at all?

Love GoPro. Used it for first time last week, attached to one of of our official's cap bills. Got some interesting training video!

@Volffas not yet. I have been researching but you have to download third party programs to recover. I hate doing that! The file still says its in the right format and it says the files are around 3-4 gigs each, but nothing will open them. It just 0.00 for time. I am going to dig into it. I really want the ones from winter when I took my son sledding for the first time. We will see. Regardless I have a new authentic card coming in a couple days. I was also just turning the camera off with out hitting stop first?? that may have something to do with it from my research. Will keep ya posted.

Thanks for the memory card recommendation. What is the largest memory card they make?

Pretty sure 64 is the largest. At least I remember reading something from GoPro saying thats the largest they supported. Someone back me up on this statement??

I get to use my favorite answer: "It depends"

Currently, yes, 64GB is the largest, but they keep getting bigger. However the Hero 3 camera is limited to 64GB so even WHEN bigger memory cards are available, the Hero 3 won't recognize anything bigger.

I have a Hero 2 and at the time 32GB was the biggest memory card. Even though 64GB cards are out now, my Hero2 won't recognize them.

I really wanted to, but my wife and I will be in New York City that weekend. It's a trip we've had booked with a few other couples for a while. I told PEARCE I was pretty disappointed the calendar didn't line up for that. I love Broken Bow lake.
