typically the 4 star boats have a little less power then the 3 star for the reason @swatski mentioned. I'm not sure of the exact horsepower difference and not sure it makes much difference in the newer boats as I have not seen many people claiming top speeds on the 240's of less then 50 mph on the previous model when someone would says they couldn't clear 50 mph this was typically the reason why.

I have the 4 Star and I can still hit 50mph. Only issue is the smell of eggs when slowing or driving in reverse...

I wouldn't mind a 4 star engines actually. We are getting into wake surfing and I would think the cat converters would be nice to clean up the exhaust.
@Rob9550 I'm intrigued by the smell of eggs...

Many people remove most of the sticker, but those I would leave because if you ever sell it in California, it better have at least one to verify it. Me personally, I would keep the vagina and rectal warning sticker!

I have read that it can be a byproduct of the catalytic process. I have never seen it in cars, but this boat has a distinct smell.

I used a hair dryer to warm it up, then it came off fairly easily. Little bit of goo-gone and I was done.

I have this exact smell with my California model 2015 212ss. Can anyone confirm that this is normal?

It's normal.
You'll smell something similar when you start your car in the morning. Our boats at certain times really keep the exhaust right there behind the swim platform. That's why when swimmers are in the water it's best to kill the motors (in addition to possible loose straps or clothing making their way into the intake grates, obviously)
Slow cruising can also be an issue if you are navigating with the wind at your back.
I'd rather have it be the stinky but cleaner exhaust, but my nose disagrees.
